MeFi post: The 50 Most Loathsome People in America, 2007
I can't even imagine having sex with a chubby woman. She would be cute if she dropped 45 pounds. And I'm tired of marginally talented people like this being rewarded with so much fame and fortune simply because they appeal to the prols.

The anorexia police love to attack Nicole, but she is all kinds of sexy.

You are the worst kind of gross.

MetaTalk post: Battle of the Flickr All-Stars
Am I wrong in thinking that one can say "BTW, she's hot" and not mean to be sexist, but saying that lacks class and respect and that is what we should be aiming at? A level of discourse where an offhand comment about someone being attractive (and I hate to break it to you guys, but some people have awesome secondary sexual characteristics) is taken to be just that, offhand and not intended to objectify or demean. The only way to realize that level of discourse is to very... [more]

The valiant yet surprisingly noncommittal rebels ardent flagwaving boyzone defense had proved resurgent. Increasingly emboldened by the confusion and dismay, they charged up the molehill toward glory, stopping at the summit to scratch their crotches and stare steely-eyed into a future much more like the past, the good ol days when certain folks knew their place and didn't complicate things.

"I'd hit it" I said, to cheers. I'd hit it.

As far as the "sexist" stuff, well she put this picture in an "erotica" group. I don't think she minds. Some women actually do like people admiring their bodies, as long as they stay in control.

For heaven's sake, the issue isn't only whether she minds. I mind. Other users mind. Calling a woman hot may not be sexist; continually commenting on women's looks, as if it's always an important consideration when... [more]

Ask MeFi post: Great works of literature created from humble resources
I don't really consider it an inferior device, but it's a good story:

Ray Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451 on a rental typewriter in the basement of UCLA's Lawrence Clark Powell Library. Since rental fee for the typewriter was 10 cents an hour, it cost him around $9.20 to produce.

MetaTalk post: Ho, Ho, Ho.
I got to sit around for hours while my infant nephew slept on my chest and my heart reawakened. Sometimes he raised his arms and shook his tiny fists in his sleep like a conductor cueing the second violin section.

I think I understand some things now. I got peace on earth for Christmas, as far as the eye could see. In my parent's living room, that meant just my nephew and me, but that's all it took to make it the best Christmas in a long time.

Thanks to you guys, I had to spend all morning explaining to our cats why this is not appropriate social behavior.

They all thought it was a laugh riot, and even funnier because it was christmas. I had to explain that it wasn't funny and they should not aspire to eat people who are having lunch at the Rainforest cafe at the zoo.

They don't seem to be listening and have all asked to go to the zoo on their birthday.

You don't know anything about how to wear clothes.

Frankly, that is the best insult I have ever read in my life.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. My fedora is fucking awesome. It's filthy, covered in dirt and black coal dust. Any form it might have had is long, long gone - it has been wadded up and stuffed in the pocket of my motorcycle jacket for so long that it is now simply a mass of cloth that sticks to my head.... On the street, I can't rely on passers-by to back me up if the guy approaching me turns out to be insane and creepy. In a bookstore, at a bar, certainly at a friend's party, if a guy is ultra-skeevy, and I raise my voice in that shrill I-am-alarmed tone, some Good Samaritan, usually a guy, will come over and do that guy thing where you say something friendly in an unfriendly tone. Ask MeFi post: Trials of a Responsible Hedonist
One thing that confuses me though, I keep reading all the ladies saying that there are few girls who would have NSA sex with a stranger. This surprises me. I have been out and about plenty and have found no shortage of females desiring nothing but a one-night stand. One trip inside a dance club catering to the 21-35 age group should prove that to be true.

Right. I think the issue is not that it's so terribly unusual for women in that age range to... [more]

Ask MeFi post: Question: How is it possible to enjoy the moment while staying goal-oriented
Our consciousness isn't binary; you can alternate between identifying what is wrong with the present state and start actions to improve that, and just accepting the present state for now while you go sequentially through those improving actions.
The thing to watch out for I think is being goal-oriented all the time to the exclusion of smelling the roses.
