When
Netscape looked like this,
Microsoft looked
like this, and
Apple
had no style at all, although it appears that
MetaFilter hasn't changed much. Go back in time and get all nostalgic with
your favourite web sites at The WayBack
Machine.
Bugrit. I did a search, I really did, couldn't find anything.

Man, I liked that Netscape design more than any of the others. Sigh.
WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO AND DIE, NETSCAPE? WHY!?

What's sad (but all-too-telling) is comparing the old layouts with their current incarnations. What we had then: clean, somewhat spartan layouts. Easy navigation. What we have now: needlessly flashy layouts. Pop-up/under ads. Flash everywhere. Navigation so labrynthine it's any wonder that any of us reach our intended destinations.
I say, gimme the old style any day!

Amen to that. Google seem to have resisted the trend and look where it's got them - lots of money in the bank. :)
Also, more and more people are browsing the web on portable devices, the old-style web pages actually work okay on smaller screens, but the new flash hell layouts just break instantly.

When did Apple increase modem speeds to 28.8 kbps? Did I miss something?

A lot of people don't know about this site, which has entered the lexicon of Internet users ("maybe its on the wayback machine"). Totally worth double-posting.

Awwww ... I was hoping to go back and find an archive of my old flyntreport.com website, but it can't seem to find it. Oh, well. My 15 minutes of fame has vapourised.
