The third image contains a familiar theme: the fingers, the circle, or is it my tainted imagination? Single link post, though.

So what? That said, I have to admit that the goatse sprang to my mind looking at that one too. Thank goodness for that tiny entertainment - worthless fantasy pap, this stuff.

Conceptual art work for Neverwinter Nights 2, same artist.
That comment sort of resonates for me, jack_mo, as I'll admit I've thought long and hard about posting this one (years, probably), and the cheesey fantasy genre isn't something I'm drawn to or have a weakness for. I think dormant walkers is a cut above, though, both conceptually and in execution (particularly the sky).

I'm not really a fan of the genre either, nthdegx, but I thought some of these were really nicely done. (I was going to link to 'dormant walkers', but you beat me to it!) Thanks for the post.

My usual reaction to this kind of art is a big eye-roll, but much of Nivbed's stuff is arresting. Nice post.

It seemed like well done generic fantasy stuff. But then I saw the one of the great white flashlit from the boat and it just...grabbed me. Wow. It was like what might have happened to Ben Gardner.
In a similar vein, with a similar style is Desire also this one is really amazing.

as paradoxically unimaginative as many of the work in this genre is, this artist's grasp of light makes me MAD mad MAD!

Beautiful work. I agree w/ jonson re: the majority of fantasy-themed artwork, but Nivbed has such fascinating artistic vision.

I hadn't seen that one - the blood 'n' flowers vomit is nicely squicky. (But still no good - I think part of the reason I hate this kind of stuff is that the artist is obviously highly skilled, yet chooses to waste his time like this. Depressing.)
