The aesthetic and sensibility of this was most pleasurable.
Also, there seem to be many things you can do with a skateboard that are counter-intuitive. I predict people treating the tops with teflon and riding them upside-down next.

Yeah, me too. I found the whole low-key vibe and occasional missed landing and tumble kind of refreshing.

Or, if you're skateboarding champion of the galaxy, you don't need the teflon: Rodney Mullen.

That thick clear lube he puts on a rail around the 3:40 mark? This is not the first Japanese video I have seen with that stuff, but it is the first skateboarding video I have seen with that stuff.

Next time I hear a complaint about a lack of skate spots in a locale, I will whip out my goumiyagiPhone and play this video. Creativity, boy! That's what you're lacking! Now take a look at what this fellow can do and go out & play.

In fairness, you're looking at Japanese street architecture, there - one of the things that struck me most about Tokyo when I was there was how much of this heavy-pipe and rounded-edges street furnishing was around, built with a real sense of esthetics and permanence and completely unadorned by the various architectural filigrees that North Americans use to make surfaces unattractive for skateboarding.
North Americans by and large don't build public spaces that aren't actively hostile to anyone under 25 who's not in a car.

I'd love to get the soundtrack for less than $20. Any leads?

Actually, North Americans do. Both the Japanese and the Americans share many of the same overcrowding issues.

Radness. Different style direction but similar skating ideals to the Chris Haslam/Daewon Song take on life (2.37 wallride on a lamp post!!).

I love how twice he grabs a rather unusual surface, showing how he's going to ride it and bam, slams right into it. Because that's exactly how I would do it.
