Props to the video maker for creating all-original content rather than just making a more typical AMV. Speaking of AMVs, there's an ancient and hallowed tradition of gender-bending mashups set to campy songs.

Shoes (Death Note)
Some Kind of Nazi Word (Death Note)

I could spend days just watching these sort of things. Half the time I've never heard the song before or seen the anime (they're usually anime), but I find the combination weirdly entrancing.

You know I love Scissor Sisters, went through a period where I wanted to have 'I Can't Decide' as a ringtone ('it's a BITCH convincing people to like you...' specifically), and am thoroughly excited to buy their latest when it comes out in a couple months. I like anime, too, and recognized about half those shows on their own without the identifier at the end, regularly read more about 'em online, that kind of thing. The two together, though, did not do it for me which kind of bums me out.

On the other hand, I'm awed by the fact that there's folks out there combining what can be two very different fields into something totally new and different. So thanks--the best part about Metafilter is learning about all the different corners of the internet and this post illuminated a new one for me.

Oooh, there's another Scissor Sisters album coming?! Awesome! There was such a long time between Ta-Dah and Night Work (or at least it felt that way...) that I'm glad there's another new one on the horizon so soon...

This is the gayest thing I've seen outside of a drag act!

Yay!

Heh - I've finally crossed-over - from old to young again - thanks to my kids I recognized at least half the anime characters!

Most awkwardly adorable conversation I've had as a married man:

Wife: I hate long hair!
Me: I know, which is why mine is short.
Wife: I love guys with feminine features, don't get me wrong, I love those bishonen, but I just hate long hair.
Me: ... You do know I'm roughly the size and shape of a shaved sloth bear, with features about as feminine as a Craftsman wrench set?
Wife: Silly! You could kill all of them, with your bare hands, which makes you sweet.
Me: Umm. OK. Thanks.

(I discovered the Scissor Sisters in 2007, which made me awkwardly adorable to everyone who had gotten completely over them in 2002.)

Yep, I went looking for more details on Night Work to see if I should finally buy it (answer: yes, what was I waiting for?) and found out there's another one coming this year sometime. Their just released single is 'Shady Love' and it's only been out for a month, so it's pretty darn new still.

There's a pretty fun AMV of I Don't Feel Like Dancing as well, also done by a very talented editor. That one impresses me because rather than repurposing comedic or dramatic narrative anime, it actually uses another music video of a very different song for source material.

That was worthy of a rockout. Good post.

Hah, that is great fun. It's a shame it doesn't look like the artist has done any other long animations, but I imagine making something like that takes a very long time on your own.

This AMV, based on Madoka, is a really tightly edited example of one made from clips from a single anime (though it's pretty spoilery if you ever intend on watching the show).
