Also, why is the word "kids" replaced with an em dash several times in that article?

Yeah, both in Murray's lines and in the interviewer's. What is that?

I'm going to have to remember that when you offer someone avocados to take home, to always be sure they have enough for guacamole.

Murray's turnaround at the start was remarkable. Nobody liked him much when he first showed up on SNL. At one point he even did this embarrassing one-camera apologia to the effect that people should give him a chance because everyone in real life was always telling him he really was funny. Perhaps it was because he was seen as trying to fill Chevy Chase's shoes, and he didn't have Chase's inexplicable charisma. But eventually he found a tone that would work -- a kind of loose-limbed brazenness that would typify his characters for years to come; the obliviously awful lounge singer, his characters in Stripes and Ghostbusters, and somehow he won through, developing some really superb and remarkably sympathetic comedic instincts. But it was touch and go for a while.

That was a charming interview. Now, out of all the actors name checked in that piece, why did Scott Rabb feel the need to explain who Frances McDormand is? She's won both a Tony and an Academy Award, FFS.
