785,000 views and an unskippable 30-second ad before it... I wonder how much they're raking in. posted by crapmatic at 9:40 AM on June 9, 2012
I am glad my dog has competition in her expertise at the old Play Poorly With Children trick. Competition is key to being the Best Dog.
Also re: 30 second unskippable ad: That sure was an incredibly sexist Axe ad at the beginning starring the voice of Nick Offerman. Which is weird considering how almost everything else I have seen him in has had a slight-to-incredible feminist bent. I at least hope that ad paid for a lifetime of exquisite woodworking projects posted by Shadax at 9:48 AM on June 9, 2012 [1 favorite]
What are you people seeing?
Thin post? Yeah, but DOG! Bein' CUTE!
SLYT? Eh.
30 second advert? Nope. posted by Mezentian at 9:49 AM on June 9, 2012 [1 favorite]
The dogs who Played Poorly with Children were often my favorites, as a kid, because they knocked me down and licked my face and went nawm-nawm-nawm on my arm so I knew they cared. posted by Countess Elena at 9:51 AM on June 9, 2012 [7 favorites]
No, this dogs were hungry and wanted to know idf you had a flavour.
Your flavour was broccolli and was insufficient. posted by Mezentian at 9:54 AM on June 9, 2012 [2 favorites]
No ad here; I'm using AdBlock Plus, maybe that's the kicker?
I want to see a cute video of a dog, but I don't want to watch a 30 second advertisement. So, I guess, no dog. posted by kbanas at 10:03 AM on June 9, 2012
Yep, no ad here either. Too bad you guys can't watch it 'cause it delightfully sacrelicious at the end. posted by NoMich at 10:13 AM on June 9, 2012
I'm also using AdBlock plus, and got to see a cool dog with no ad. Life Is Beautiful posted by Greg Nog at 10:13 AM on June 9, 2012 [1 favorite]
kbanas, there's only an ad if the word "crap" is in your user name. It's youtube's "have a pleasant user name" effort. Personally, I think its a good idea. posted by HuronBob at 10:13 AM on June 9, 2012

I have a rather unpleasant Youtube username and I don't get extra ads. posted by NoMich at 10:15 AM on June 9, 2012
Things you can do while the "unskippable 30-second ad" (that I, for my part, did not see) plays:
Water the plants
Do some light calisthenics
Fetch yourself a snack
Have a brief staring contest with the cat
Stretch
Hit mute and open another tab
Prepare the comment you'll make about how there was an ad and how this is intolerable to you

It's only Metafilter user names that they are concerned about... posted by HuronBob at 10:38 AM on June 9, 2012
I think the thirty second ad plays if you watch it via the YouTube link beneath the text instead of the embedded video link at the end. There are two possible links. posted by A Terrible Llama at 10:39 AM on June 9, 2012
And, in retrospect, I don't see any reason to crucify the dog because of the ad. posted by HuronBob at 10:39 AM on June 9, 2012 [4 favorites]

I don't especially care about an unskippable ad (after all, people need to make money somehow if the internet is to sustain itself and keep me from developing a real hobby) so much as I wanted to express my genuine confusion over what I just heard while simultaneously utilizing bullet points four (modified to incorporate a dog that may very well be a poorly designed cat) and five of the wreckingball method. posted by Shadax at 10:39 AM on June 9, 2012
Stubbs is a good dog, but I don't think there's anything "borderline" about the tastelessness of the end gag. Meh.
I had a 12-second unskippable ad for a certain restaurant, FWIW. posted by Gator at 10:42 AM on June 9, 2012
Pointing Eagerly At Nothing was one of my (nonpointer) dog's favourite ways to taunt me, I suspect.
It confuses me when people willingly do not use AdBlock. It's like punching yourself in the face and then blaming someone else. posted by elizardbits at 10:52 AM on June 9, 2012 [1 favorite]
Personally, I'm kind of torqued off that some of you got to see a cool Axe ad and all I got was some dumb video about some guy's hound dog. posted by Slarty Bartfast at 10:55 AM on June 9, 2012

Youtube puts in ads before random video plays, this has been going on for a quite a long time and has nothing to do with the person who uploaded this video. Adblockers seem to work (I never see the ads anyway), and there's no reason for it to be a point of discussion for this particular video at all.
I saw the ad because I'm at work and don't have an ad blocker here. I can't even remember what it was for.
My dog also excels at Pointing at Absolutely Nothing and Not Getting into Containers I Want to Put Him In. He draws the line at anything that could be perceived as sacrilege, though. (Out of courtesy, not conviction.) posted by trip and a half at 12:33 PM on June 9, 2012
Naw, I'm a crazy cat lady and I saw no ad courtesy of AdBlock. However, seeing Stubbs be good with children brought up some long suppressed memories of mild trauma as my parents' first child was a German Shorthair Pointer named Judy who was not at all pleased when I came along. Most of my earliest memories are of Judy pushing me over and one especially bitter memory of her looming into my field of view to steal my ice cream cone, so I hid it behind my back and that wicked dog ran around and stole it away. posted by jamaro at 12:43 PM on June 9, 2012 [4 favorites]
I am sorry jamaro but I am laughing really ugly awful laughter at your tale of ice cream woe. posted by elizardbits at 1:15 PM on June 9, 2012 [1 favorite]
No worries elizabits, it's a humbling experience to realize that at so many points in my life I've been easily outsmarted by a dog. posted by jamaro at 1:34 PM on June 9, 2012 [1 favorite]
