This weekend in Millsboro, Delaware is the 16th annual Punkin Chunkin World Championships, in which pumpkins are propelled distances approaching a mile from old-style catapults and huge air cannons. Anyone else going?

...distances approaching a mile...

I've been hearing commercials on the radio for this event for weeks. Seems to be quite a big deal for the delmarva area folk. I'd like to see the Trebuchet category and the Centrifugal Machines. Woo hoo! or should I say Yee Haw.

Wait till the folks at PETP hear about this.

I lived 95% of my life in Delaware, much of that punkin' chunkin distance from Milsboro, yet I've always managed to avoid this event. Although I would have gone the year Trailer Park Riot played if I had been living there at the time.

The full itinerary and historical details of this year's punkin chunkin. (it started 16 years ago out as a personal feud between two guys getting too old to hurl anvils anymore, and the first punkin chunkin distance winner might have been 128 feet).

Almost as much fun as Middletown's hummers' parade on New Year's day...
