Ever wish pop songs were more verbose or circumlocutory? If so, Dave Werner's risible Extraneous Lyrics will no doubt entertain. In addition to 2012, he also has 2011 and 2010 editions.

I hate all of those songs and yet love half of them.

"over-stimulates my druthers"...I simply MUST figure out a way to work this into a casual conversation.

I enjoy your dishonest behavior and/or the way you lie down in a horizontal fashion.

.... I was really enjoying this right up until the point he decided we weren't clever enough to get the joke.

Of the ones I (eventually) recognized1 (call me maybe, never ever getting back together, gangam style) - these were definitely better than the originals. But then, I am bit sesquipedalian myself, sometimes.

1Not trying to be all hipster, just pop-clueless. I apparently was the last the last person on earth to find out what the hell a "Gangam Style" was.

And now that I'm listening to the other two, I don't recognize *anything* - but "the precipice of apotheosis" is a great lyric. I want to see it used more, now. In some serious metal.

I recognised second song is Justin Bieber (and use of the word 'Swag' and high-pitched vocals suggested it, I have remained JB free so far): are the lyrics to the original that creepy?

Yeah, Mezentian, it's a faintly creepy and song. Some excerpts...
"If I was your boyfriend, I’d never let you go"

"Keep you on my arm girl, you’d never be alone"

"If I was your man, I’d never leave you girl"

"I don’t never wanna fight yeah, you already know
I am ‘ma a make you shine bright like you’re laying in the snow
Burr"

Admittedly some of the creepiness is tempered by such ridiculousness as:
"Chillin by the fire why we eatin’ fondue
I dunno about me but I know about you
So say hello to falsetto in three two"

"Swaggie"

"I could be your Buzz Lightyear fly across the globe"

And this is why I stay in my pop culture bubble.

Thanks for sharing the horror.

Or just listen to The Shins.

As somebody who enjoys both pop music and wordplay, I found this charming. Thanks!
