Should be labeled NSFW for that Inside Amy Schumer banner ad that's running now. Yowsa.

As to the comics themselves, they were good for a chuckle. They reminded of the Internet Vices bit from a while back.

My name is Octothorpe and I've been Minecraft free for almost a year now.

Unlike marijuana, Minecraft is habit-forming.

I expected to be annoyed at the Adderall one, as I get tired of all of the jokes surrounding something that has made my life substantially better and really saved me in a lot of ways, but that's surprisingly accurate and funny, and thankfully doesn't fall into the LOL LUXURY DRUG FOR LAZY PEOPLE trope.

I will say that Civ was bad enough on its own, and was something that I would hyperfocus on before I ever got treated. I stay away from it anymore-- playing that while ON adderall is definitely contraindicated.

all I know is for some people, access to hashcake is the leading cause of Greece-roman inspired island temples in minecraft.

I get super-addicted to Minecraft, only to leave it for long spells. I never build much. I suspect these two facts are related.

Holy god the Civ/Adderall one...

I should probably get checked out to see if I would benefit from Adderall.

How did I never make the Bryan Cranston/Gordon Freeman connection before this moment.

I'm not sure why they think WoW is 'incredibly expensive' though. Sixteen dollars a month, and 60ish dollars every 1-2 years is... way way less than a lot of people spend on a LOT of other hobbies.

It is not surprising the game analogous to LSD never was finished. The developers found a mote of their childhood in the carpet and got lost examining it.

The game analogous to LSD was rereleased on PlayStation 3 in 2010.

Opportunity costs.

That could be applied to any hobby, up to and including watching television, which the average American does for 34 hours a week.

invitapriore: "How did I never make the Bryan Cranston/Gordon Freeman connection before this moment."

I've seen it before, but the age is way off. Gordon is in his 20s, isn't he?

I'd say that Cranston could play him as depicted in Half-Life 4: Episode 6, but that would be after the heat death of the universe.

So what drug does Deadly Premonition align with?

I kind of always figured thirties myself, but I'm happy to just interpolate a few decades of professorship in between him graduating from that university in Germany (if I'm remembering the offer letter that appears in the HL1 manual correctly, it's been a while) and his signing on with Black Mesa.

Katamari Damacy makes a decent LSD equivalent too, I'd imagine.

Oh god, my 10 year-old son is totally into Minecraft now. Maybe I should divert him towards something safer, like a mickey of vodka.

Don't know, but this will help you catch up.

Now I feel really guilty for showing my friend's two little boys how to build a portal to the Nether in Minecraft. I'm basically that guy from anti-drug PSAs in the 90s.

invitapriore: "I kind of always figured thirties myself"

According to this fan wiki (always authoritative) he was 27 in HL1. But, who cares really? I guess I'm down with an older, grizzled movie Gordon.

I'm starting to think that Armored Core V is PCP.

Not like PCP. Actual PCP.

Seriously, I have no idea what's going on half the time, I'm in a near constant state of panic, and I can't stop.

Actually, now that you bring it up, the parallel continues to work there too. If I had kids, I'm not sure I'd want them to have the gaming/drug habits that I've had, but if they were going to do it anyway, I'd definitely prefer they do Minecraft/pot.

I'm not enough of a recreational drug conisiour to come up with the right match for NetHack though I'm sure there is some old timey drug like Quaaludes or absinthe that would fit the bill.

This still completely astonishes me. 34 hours a week? Is that all they do?? When do they actually, you know, live their lives?

Absinthe sounds about right, actually.

Especially if you play it on an old green monochrome monitor.

Nethack could be opium as well - old timey, yields impossibly detailed dreamlike fantasies, and is also addictive and punishing.
