Here's my favorite capitalist pick-up line, from Adam Smith to Karl Marx: "Hey, Karl, let's sneak out the back so I can give you an invisible hand job!"

but if someone had given the Gosling treatment to Hitler, Himmler, Goering, Speer et al. would we find it cute?

Hipster Hitler is mildly amusing, so I suspect so.

Who is that with:
if i can’t dance, i don’t want your revolution.
if you can’t dance, i’m going home with the busboy.

I feel I should know.

Who is that

Emma Goldman, noted critic of pretty much all of her contemporaries on that page.

PS: Isn't deleting comments critical of Stalinism a little, well... you know?

Thanks! I can't say have heard of Goldman, but I shall google her now.
I likes me some Marxist theory and debate.

They're not being deleted, they're being purged. :)
I did wonder what was getting deleted.

Getting into x iteration of stupid boring internet fight y right out of the gate is generally frowned upon around here but you can always go to Metatalk and fight about it there for 500 or so comments, I'm sure everyone is looking forward to it.

I can't say have heard of Goldman, but I shall google her now.

Goldman's book on early Soviet Russia can be found here. The relevant quote is this one:
Kronstadt broke the last thread that held me to the Bolsheviki. The wanton slaughter they had instigated spoke more eloquently against them than aught else. Whatever their pretences in the past, the Bolsheviki now proved themselves the most pernicious enemies of the Revolution. I could have nothing further to do with them.

"ain’t no party like the communist party cuz the communist party DON’T STOP UNTIL WE ACHIEVE A CLASSLESS SOCIETY" made me cackle.

Alternate suggestion: "ain’t no party like the communist party cuz the communist party is the sole embodiment of the temporary dictatorship of the proletariat"

Also fond of "Because a Communist Party is MANDATORY." Much like a Liz Lemon Party.

1. From the Mansplaining Marxist blog, this is my new favorite thing.

2. For a while I've wondered why I took the time to make this. Now I know.

3. From the Lisa Frankfurt School link, above, how awesome is this!

I would scarcely rely on a participant in the poltical battles of the early-20th century Left like Emma Goldman to provide an accurate view of early 20's Russia. There are plenty of academic accounts of the period that do it far more justice. Personally, I find Cohen's Bukharin and the Bolshevik Revolution 1888-1938 to be an excellent survey within a biography of the period.

Right, because she was there and knew everybody personally; what could she have to contribute?

Cohen is a Bukharin fanboy and has ludicrous ideas about what "might have been." It's a useful book when you allow for his biases, but I'll take Goldman's view over his in a heartbeat.
