The 18-mile cross-city golf is required viewing. Just brilliant, fascinating, insightful reporting. LeDuff should be nominated for the Pulitzer in the Local Reporting category.

I loved the one where he is waiting for the police. That's awesome.

Am I the first one to say that this sounds like my average Friday night?

Not that the bar is super high, but Charlie seems too talented for local news, isn't he? Is he a McNulty figure or just the new kid on the block?

I think a lot of the major markets tend to have a few people like LeDuff, although his persona is a little more out there than most.

Thanks for posting. Having lived about 45 miles south of Detroit for most of my life I have a deep fondness for Detroit and the Rouge which I always crossed n the way to Detroit. I think of Detroit as a long neglected aging parent who gave their all to raise several generation of children--long gone, unappreciative and indifferent. Aging in America can be less than gracious experience. Thanks Again

Actually LeDuff is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who wrote for the NY Times for a long time. Iirc, he quit because the Times didn't want him covering inequality in America, or at least that was his spin on it. He also covered war zones etc. definitely not your typical on air local tv reporter. Fascinating guy.

Oh, barf. No, I mean it. Way back in the early 60's, I once fell in to the Flint River, up north from there a bit. Had to burn my clothes. It was DISGUSTING. And I say that having been fairly used to smelling it, from hiking by it all the time. But damn, the idea of touching tree branches that have been submerged in such a mess just, ULP!
I liked the video. Hope they clean the river up better. It has been done elsewhere, and we know it works.
