What if Batman was the next Ben Affleck in Good Will Hunting? (slyt, nsfw language)
I hate jokes, so it was rewarding to see even a very weak, barely-formed one being mercilessly thrashed for three and a half minutes.

Christian Bale is a great actor, but I'll never really understand what he was going for with that Batman-voice. By the third movie it felt like he was just doing a parody of the whole bit.

I like that Batman kinda has a southie accent too.

I couldn't make it to the end either, but "The New York Times says: 'Wait, what?'" got a chuckle out of me.

In other Batman related news: Batman resuscitates cat he saved from burning building. True story from Milton, West Virginia. Captain America helped.

Bruce Wayne is the Donald Trump of Gotham -- well known to the point that people would likely recognize his voice. Just doing a growl is enough to disguise it, while doing a fake voice that sounded like a real one would be a distraction (to the character as well as the audience).

Pretty sure he was.

I got that he was trying to disguise his identity, but I still think the voice sucked and was distracting. We are suspending disbelief in a lot of ways with a Batman movie, I'm not sure if the "they might recognize his voice!" is the detail that is going to cross the line into absurdity. It really took away from the experience for me. Between his growling and Bane's schtick I had a very difficult time getting through the Dark Knight Rises.

If anything, it's an overcorrection from George Clooney not even bothering to do a different voice in Batman & Robin. I get why Bale did the Alec-Baldwin-needs-a-lozenge voice in Batman Begins, but you'd think Bruce Wayne could've gotten his Chinese holding company (ugh) to stick an electronic voice-changer into the cowl in time for the second or third film.

I really liked his friendship with Damon, seeing as Damon's character had socialization issues due to his brilliance, and Batman had socialization issues due to, you know, his parents being murdered.

Neither did Michael Keaton I don't think. And of course Adam West didn't and he has one of the most recognizable speaking voices I can think of. But none of it stood out to me in the Batman context as problematic; mostly my problem with Clooney Batman was that the movie was absolutely terrible in every way.

Yeah. I mean, if you've swallowed the bat costume you're really not going to suddenly throw up your hands at "but they'd recognize his voice." I mean, you've got pretty much the same audience that is happy to buy no one recognizing Clark Kent as Superman because of glasses.

He should probably go with the double-bluff and do an insultingly over-the-top Bruce Wayne impression.

Bailed as well, it was just irritating. Now, if Minnie Driver had been Batgirl in the Clooney movie, it might have ended up better than it did.

I loved Bale as Bruce Wayne, but I am still waiting for the Rifftrax-style audio track of Kevin Conroy reading all the movie Batman lines.

Samizdata, surely with ~20 years in the Batman role, there's enough extant Conroy-Bat voice data to splice together the movie lines? Let's unleash this idea on the dedicated geeks at Reddit or 4chan. We can Conroyfy one of the trailers as a proof-of-concept.
