Their stubby little legs are just inherently amusing.

Why is this the only post on MetaFilter that has ever had the tag 'puppybutt'? Inconceivable.

There must be some sort of demigod wielding that camera because no mere human would be able to resist playing with wiggling puppyfeets.

This works really well as a metaphor for my work week. I am really glad I finally got my ass into the tent.

The triumphant ending lifts me up.

Yeah, if I had any kind of video editing skills I would do a little clip of that in slow-mo with some kind of soaring magnificent soundtrack.

I like how a fluffy enough pet butt makes it look like the pet in question is wearing hammer pants.

It would have been much more adorable if the puppy still had its tail.
posted by Toekneesan at 3:09 PM on October 11, 2013 [1 favorite]

YEAH tail docking makes me sad unless it is done for medical reasons (which it never really is). Why would you deprive a dog the full usage of its happiness indicator?

Ok, puppy vs. bunny, at dawn.

If it's a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, there is a good chance it was born without a tail.

One of my favourite things to watch is my puppy's butt as she trots ahead of me on our walks. So much so that I insist on having multiple pictures of her butt in action.

Puppy butts RULE.

If it were physically possible for someone to do my middle of the night camping pee for me I would pay them stupid sums of money. Getting out of my cozy sleeping bag, finding a light, fumbling around for footwear, and stumbling to the bathroom/outhouse/designated hole/shrub in the cold/damp/dark/spiders - boooooo to all of that.

YAY TO PUPPY BUTTS THOUGH.

My PMS/PMDD made me unable to watch past the first few seconds of this. "OH MY GOD IT'S SO SAD HIS LITTLE LEGS HE'S TRYING SO HARD HE JUST WANTS TO BE LOVED OH MY GOD" Even being mindful enough to know it's just PMS doesn't counter-act the effect. Maybe I'll skip ahead to the happy ending.

Just to reiterate What was said above, Pembroke Corgis can be born with naturally docked tails. They are one of few breeds that have the genetics for that. I have a pembroke and she was born with her widdle nubbin.

Vallhunds are another! They can come with anything from a full tail, which is usually a spitz curl but can be straight, through different lengths of stub, to being a barebum.

Tails are awfully cute and expressive and docking is icky. But on the other hand, when you're walking a dog with a spitz tail, you're getting an eyeful of anus. The nice thing about short stub tails (like you see on pembrokes or like our Nina has) is that the dogs typically carry them as a modesty flap, blocking the view of the old brown-eye.

Doesn't do anything about the Lovecraftian nightmare of a bitch-in-heat's vulva though. *shudder*

I'm kind of jealous. When I took my three month old rotweiler camping I tried locking him up in the tent for a bit, he just ripped a hole in the side and then spent the week slowly making it into a bigger doggie door.

There is video footage out there where I'm looking like this pug. Actually I had just successfully navigated the screen door of the inner tent when I was overcome by a sudden fit of laughter and collapsed inside the vestibule.

The fact we were filling a small dome tent with two times as much people as it was rated for and cooking inside might be related to this episode...

My red heeler has a natural stumpy tail and pricked ears. Fortunately her tail has a 'modesty flap' and so she's absolutely cute all over.

carsonb, at around 0:28 in the video, the woman's laughing because Rod the corgi is drinking water presumably from a puddle even though he's stuck there.

Just last night I was camping in a tent along the St. Lawrence river when I awoke and urgently needed to go, but when I struggled to my feet in the darkness I discovered that the small shelter where I'd stored our food had actually blown down to within inches of the river; I had to retrieve it and round up all our stuff before doing anything else. Then I was so damned awake I had to build the fire back up and sit watching the shipping traffic go by under the stars for, like, an hour. And now I'm really tired but still have to get up for work tomorrow at 5.

Puppy butt action helps a lot, though. Thanks.

And yes, I too would like to hire a proxy for late night camp urination. It is without a doubt the least fun thing about tenting.
