Most of these games store save data in LocalStorage, so it'll just sort of magically stick around on the specific browser you're playing from with an autosave every minute or so.

Also, go to the mountain. Also, where is the mountain? Buy something that's useful for finding out where things are. And then use it. Because the mountain beats the shit out of getting murdered by Demon Wizards.

Also: gears.

I opened the browser and immediately started gaining gold.

So far I like this. Think I'll wait until I get to a few thousand gold before I start clicking on anything.

what do i do with all this gunk, what are my gears doing, why mountain
posted by elizardbits at 11:36 AM on July 3, 2014 [2 favorites]

Hint: Once you have gears and gunk, go to the factory, where you can make something INCREDIBLY helpful.
posted by jbickers at 11:37 AM on July 3, 2014

i did that already but since i fucked up at the campsite it's less helpful than you'd imagine
posted by elizardbits at 11:39 AM on July 3, 2014 [1 favorite]

Yeah, I confessed too. Is there any way to start over?
posted by Curious Artificer at 11:42 AM on July 3, 2014

Yes, there is. It's on the "about" page, he helpfully answered himself.

Am I missing something? I stole the supplies, and the camp owner mentioned "a price," but I don't seem to incur any gold loss when I rest.
posted by Iridic at 11:46 AM on July 3, 2014

Mine went from saying Rest(1) to Rest(3)
posted by elizardbits at 11:48 AM on July 3, 2014

Mine continues to say Rest(0). No idea what the parenthetical means.
posted by Iridic at 11:49 AM on July 3, 2014

I rested once and now it's up to (9)

i have no idea what this means
posted by elizardbits at 11:51 AM on July 3, 2014

Number in the parenthetical is how much gold it will cost you. It goes up every time you do it.
posted by jbickers at 11:51 AM on July 3, 2014

Mine doesn't. Must be a happy bug, then.
posted by Iridic at 11:52 AM on July 3, 2014

I suspect if you don't raid the campsite the Rest number never goes up b/c the guy is cool w/ you.
posted by griphus at 11:53 AM on July 3, 2014

For a minute there I had no armor and 1000000 Defense. Then I got some as a drop and am down to 20. Woe is me. ;-;

My rest is 48. Thus the wages of sin, ey.
posted by Thing at 11:54 AM on July 3, 2014

I restarted because I felt bad about stealing the supplies. The rest(0) is just icing on top.
posted by bswinburn at 11:57 AM on July 3, 2014

Sometimes there's caching errors/bugs.

I just reset because I can't stand taking any sort of Dark Path, and I did :(
posted by muddgirl at 12:00 PM on July 3, 2014

crap I didn't pick a sin at the demon wizard and I have to start over because he doesn't allow return visits even if you didn't pick anything

For those of you fretting about the increasing rest cost, it changes back later after an event.

Watch out for the cost of health potions too, they also incrementally go up. So don't burn through them too quickly if you don't need to.

It is worth running through the different "levels" more than once, since item don't always drop the first time.

Post over on reddit
on the r/incremental_games sub from the creator announcing it (spoilers and hints and bug reporting there)

on my second play through, since i made terrible evil choices by "accident" the first time and want to see how it plays out morally.

posted by bswinburn at 1:48 PM on July 3, 2014

The moon is the last level I can see, with the two separate endings.

Quoting the creator from that reddit link above:

"Yeah I wish it was a little longer but I didn't want to artificially increase the length by just making the player have to grind a bunch more, doesnt make for a fun experience imo."

Super fun though, thanks for the link!

A better way to do the hover-spoiler thing is to use an abbr tag, that way you don't actually have to make a hyperlink. Instead, the text is displayed (in Firefox at least) with a dotted underline.

Text to underline.

you can definitely do the fish without the worm, it's a little bit of quick reeling and a little bit of luck
posted by elizardbits at 2:24 PM on July 3, 2014

The quicker you click reel the bigger the fish. If you wait quite a few moments your fish will be 0 pounds.

the gears wear out after a while? or is this a bug.
posted by elizardbits at 3:05 PM on July 3, 2014

oh i guess that at a certain gunk level if you leave the machine on, no matter how many gears you have it will only give you 8go/s
posted by elizardbits at 3:13 PM on July 3, 2014

When a game asks you if I want to combing your gold and your gunk, you go, "Huh. Never thought to do that before Sure. Combine them!"

Then when you find out you actually need the gunk more than the gold does, you are sad.
posted by mudpuppie at 4:04 PM on July 3, 2014

When you meld gold and gunk, you increase your maximum health. I'm surprised no one's mentioned that yet.
posted by JHarris at 4:38 PM on July 3, 2014

Where are you getting gunk?
posted by mochapickle at 4:45 PM on July 3, 2014

There's a machine in the factory that you turn on. While it's on, some of your gold income (increased by using gears) is diverted into producing gunk.
posted by JHarris at 4:46 PM on July 3, 2014 [1 favorite]

I can't make the game do anything so I'm pretending you all are freestyle roleplaying in this thread.

Did anyone else finish? I got to the final boss but kept getting whomped, so I dropped it.
posted by mochapickle at 8:52 AM on July 10, 2014

I did. The final boss is a bit tough but not too bad. IIRC you have to shield is wide attacks and transport from his close ones. I also went back and got a couple items I had missed and I think that helped.
posted by muddgirl at 9:01 AM on July 10, 2014

If you're on a laptop make sure you full screen the window so you can see the attack warnings. The Beast works similarly, but it's easier to build up enough hit points to be able to absorb the attacks.
posted by ChurchHatesTucker at 9:46 AM on July 10, 2014

I did it by building up to about 20k HP and using healing and shield potions.

Also I had sword and armor enchanted up to 81000 iirc? Whatever the next level was from 27000 at the wizard's place.
posted by elizardbits at 9:52 AM on July 10, 2014

Yay! It worked, muddgirl -- thanks!

I had the best sword and gear, but not the sense to teleport fast enough.
posted by mochapickle at 9:54 AM on July 10, 2014

In addition to teleporting/shielding at the appropriate times when fighting the lich, enchanting your weapon up to 75% helps a ton.
