Brand New Ancients is a spoken word performance (review) by poet, singer and playwright Kate Tempest that won the Ted Hughes Award For New Poetry in 2012. Early this year, to coincide with a wider tour of the show, Kate Tempest and the Battersea Arts Centre produced three short films based on the performance. One. Two. Three (trigger warning, as this one is terrifying).

She is so amazing. I love her. I was literally listening to her two minutes ago.

Here's her live session with Lauren Laverne from Tuesday (sadly, only up for a month) where she talks about her work and her life and performs two of her poems.

From Wikipedia: "Tempest's influences include Virginia Woolf, Samuel Beckett, James Joyce, W B Yeats, William Blake, W H Auden and Wu-Tang Clan." Yeah, that's about all you need to know.

This is breathtaking; I've never seen anything like it - I'm riveted to the chair. I looked around, expecting to see the broken bottle.

Thank you for posting this, dng.

Excellent, that's a great interview. The bit where she talks about her love of seeing and hearing poets perform their work is wonderful.
