Brand New Ancients is a spoken word performance (review) by poet, singer and playwright Kate Tempest that won the Ted Hughes Award For New Poetry in 2012. Early this year, to coincide with a wider tour of the show, Kate Tempest and the Battersea Arts Centre produced three short films based on the performance. One. Two. She is so amazing. I love her. I was literally listening to her two minutes ago.

Here's her live session with Lauren Laverne from Tuesday (sadly, only up for a month) where she talks about her work and her life and performs two of her poems.

From Wikipedia: "Tempest's influences include Virginia Woolf, Samuel Beckett, James Joyce, W B Yeats, William Blake, W H Auden and Wu-Tang Clan." Yeah, that's about all you need to know.

This is breathtaking; I've never seen anything like it - I'm riveted to the chair. I looked around, expecting to see the broken bottle.

Excellent, that's a great interview. The bit where she talks about her love of seeing and hearing poets perform their work is wonderful.
