It's hard not to anthropomorphize when you can see the gears turning.

I watched the first 8 (fine, 11) without realizing what I was doing. It's like eating popcorn.

My favorite so far: Da-Dum...Da-Dum...Da-Dum-Da-Dum-Da-Dum.

This may or may not be part of that list, but it's my favorite startled cat video. (The soundtrack helps a lot, but the sideways teleportation of the cat out of frame is classic.)

Up until a few weeks ago my kittens1 used to walk up to my outstretched finger, smell it, and jump back 3 feet like WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT??!

And then a little while later they'd do it again.

So this may be a stupid question, but I never really use Reddit:

Is there like, a slide show option or something so you can see more than a long list of thumbnails without having to individually click? Or are you meant to individually click?

You're meant to individually click, every photo is the subject of its own comment thread.

I would love a photo slideshow of startled cat pics. But mostly these aren't pics, they're gifs, vines or videos. They're good, but I'd really rather just look at pics.

smoke - this works. will take a while to fully load. and shows there are always eejits posting off-topic stuff in reddit.
clusterfake has a nice javascript bookmark that will deslide-ify quite a lot of things. tried to include it, but the mefi text editor doesn't like it. just go here and drag the bookmarklet to your browser's bookmarks.

creepy baby sock is awesome - cat is so intent on keeping the hairdryer in line!

animals being jerks youtube compilation is astounding. apparently all species love pushing others into water!

Not stupid. Reddit tends to use imgur.com which is malleable. The uploader [person] can designate that all the pictures appear in a one page album, they can designate that that the pictures appear sequentially requiring clicking, they can designate that all the pictures appear in a smaller form on one page [to a limit.] Ctrl+Shift+F9 to initiate Auto-Play is the hack to not have to click.

It's annoying that so many people who upload have no idea how their uploads are consumed. It's a bunch of people on smartphones with varying results as to quality.

Startling a leel ol' housecat is one thing, but you should try very very hard not to startle this thing.

Slideshow of subreddits with a lof ot images can be achieved by adding a p to the url like:
http://www.redditp.com/r/StartledCats
You might have to remove the s from https first.

No mention of /r/CatsStandingUp? That community is the Being John Malkovich of cat subreddits.

Aubilenon, I see you have a candidate.

I am home sick with a cold and have decided that watching endless loops of startled kitten gifs is exactly how I want to spend my day. Thank you!

Cat Malfunction seems to be correctly identified.
Even as a long-time observer of weird cat behavior, I am clueless about that one.

Smoke and others... I _highly_ recommend a browser plugin called Thumbnail Zoom Plus...

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/thumbnail-zoom-plus/

It shows animated GIFs just by hovering over them, no click required. It also shows YouTube previews and lots of other stuff. Made the cat GIFs much easier to view.

(that link is for Firefox, dunno about other browsers)
(no affiliation, just use it and love it)
(sorry to derail the thread)

I would hate to be the person a cat uses to climb out of a filled bathtub. The claws. The claws.

The claws. The claws.

It is just as bad as you think it might be. I have seen the aftermath.

Why do cats always need to put their anus on stuff?
posted by turbid dahlia at 3:32 PM on August 24, 2014

Because they have too much trouble with buttons to put on pants.

This GIF of a Serval boing-ing and pouncing led me down a long Google search of Servals and much awwing.
