The Back to the Future trilogy predicts the John F. Kennedy assassination and the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. The messages are hidden in plain sight. [some graphic imagery of JFK | absurd-conspiracy-filter]

It always feels slightly unsporting to make fun of conspiracy theorists, especially when they're clearly...er....not quite perceiving reality in the same way the rest of us do.

But dammit, this kind of thing just always tickles me.

Wow. Thank you for this. I've got a friend who's pointed me towards Zietgiest and stuff but it all seemed too long to sit through. This was nice and compact. Nice nutty texture too.

This is really funny, but Back to the Future was actually released on July 3, 1985. The fact that I had to look that up makes me very disappointed in myself.

I didn't look at any of his other stuff, so I'm assuming this was totally tongue in cheek, because it had to be... right? I mean, it's has nearly every conspiracy theory trope jammed in there, along with the repetition, along with the repetition, it has to be satire.

(though it didn't talk about chemtrails... I wonder why...)

These guys have a career in literary criticism/semiotics if they could shift their energies. Back to the Future does have a strong "resonance", an undertone of menace, that is out of proportion to its overall campiness. At least in my ancient memory. I always found the part where the men--"foreigners"--with machine guns drive up and riddle Doc with bullets to be shocking and outside the language of the film. There is an easy read of conscious or subconscious xenophobia right there.

See you on the youtube balconies with spyglass in hand.

Lybians. Which of course, what with the ongoing not entirely a war with "Lybian terrorism" of the time, made perfect sense as the antagonist setting the story in motion.

If he can read that into BTTF he's going to freak out if he ever plays Deus Ex

"One famous piece of trivia about Deus Ex is that, if you look at the city skyline during the missions set in New York City, the Twin Towers are conspicuously absent. The real reason for their exclusion isn't very interesting: something to do with memory constraints. So in the game's fiction, the Towers were destroyed by terrorists. Deus Ex was released in 2000, a year before 9/11."

I'm just pleased that Alex Jones now has his own competing conspiracy theories. On the topic of himself. What needs to happen is for those conspiracy theories to get their own internal conspiracy action happening. And so on, so Alex Jones can one day, perhaps soon, go down the rabbit hole of himself.

So in the game's fiction, the Towers were destroyed by terrorists. Deus Ex was released in 2000, a year before 9/11.

Less impressive: it was released 7 years after a previous bombing attempt failed to take down the towers.

But if that's your sort of thing, The Coup's 2011 album Party Music was delayed because the album cover created in June 2011 depicted 2 members of the group destroying the Twin Towers, which probably seemed a lot cooler at the time.

Seems legit.

BTW, an anagram of "the Twin Pines Mall" is PLANES MELT WITHIN. An anagram of "the Lone Pine Mall" is LETHAL LINEMAN OP. A lineman is someone who listens in on people's calls, like the ones immortalised in the song Wichita Lineman. Are we being told that 9/11 was an "op", military/spy slang for an operation? That it would end in flames, with burning planes and thousands of corpses? Or simply that there were people who knew about it, the "linesmen" of the NSA, and chose to do ... nothing?
