'The Brothers Chaps', creators of the web's iconic Homestar Runner, have been doing odd jobs for Disney's TV toons lately (on "New Mickey Mouse" shorts, "Gravity Falls," "Wander Over Yonder," and "Star vs. The Forces of Evil") and have just begun a series of shorts for the Disney XD website and YouTube Channel: "Two More Eggs (Tuesdays)": Trailer, Introducing Dooble Dooblie Doo, Introducing CGI Palz and a word from a sponsor: Hot Dip: Not For Momz! Not Strongbad, but still part of an absurdist breakfast. (About)

Wow, Disney XD has extended into Cartoon Network WTF territory. I'm not sure it's quite my cuppa, but I support more absurd cartoons!

CGI Palz makes me happier than words can say. PLUS a cameo from Rooty, the Lebanon, PA High School Mascot!!

I dislike this absurdist arms race because I fear Cartoon Network will go Full Dada on us all.

Full Dada?

Bring it on. Bring it upside the marble. Flip that textured emotion on the starry pineapple and ride the bishop SHOUT! and SHOUT! and the forty-nine cigars of Joachim's mother will tumble like the mown eyebrows of a thousand porn robots in jingling ecstatic despair.

Every channel.

Hmm. I'm not sure I like these, at least not so far. I think the whacky absurdity was actually one of the weaker points of Homestar - it really hit its stride when it the craziness was grounded in a very well-observed reality. Teen Girl Squad is the perfect example of this. I'm guessing with the "Introducing" in the titles, it sounds like some of these characters are going to be recurring, so maybe that will give them the chance to really build a world that will develop into something more than just the goofiness of these clips. FWIW, I suppose it took H*R a while to grow on me too. In general though, I'm just really super happy the Chaps are succeeding in animation and continuing to make the kind of weird stuff they want to make.

Just for the record, here are a couple examples of Matt Chapman's writing for existing Disney franchises:
Wander Over Yonder
Mickey Mouse (he's one of 5 listed writers)

Oh man, I even recognize some of the FX. I have missed these guys. I watch some of the shows they've worked for, but it hasn't been the same.

Hot Dip terrifies me. He's the same color as that kid, but melty. He's probably made from melted kid. I bet even Marshie has nightmares about him.
