My friend's cockatiel learned to sing the little motif from near the end of the 1812 overture, the one that goes "da-da da-da da-da DA DA DA" but could never get the hang of the final note. So it would sit there and go, over and over again, "da-da da-da da-da DA DA... peep?" then "da-da da-da da-da DA DA... plonk". The first few times it was mildly amusing, but it tended to become more and more hilarious the longer it went on (or the more one had to drink). Poor little birdie. It tried so hard.

That title is a reference to legendaryfrog, right? From the old days of the internet, when only the rich had dialup and everyone else had to load quicktime videos by carrier pigeon.

I've got to go play chocobo racing again some time soon.

Here's one that learned to sing Po-Pi-Po (right up there with Nyan Cat on the annoying-but-catchy-if-you-keep-listening songs list).

The African Grey has a wide assortment of little samples it chooses from.

I was watching a few of the African Grey videos before I realized you could hear the Cockatiel in the background of pretty much all of them.

I tried to teach my cockatiel (no longer with me) the theme tune to the Addams Family, but he never picked it up. He never picked any tune up, really. Well, except for the one I made up for the phrase "cockatiels are cool!" ๐Ÿ˜„

This one can do the Addams Family tune though.

Incidentally, for the benefit of those who can't read Japanese, the cockatiel's name is Maru (yes, the same as the famous cat). The title of the video that taz linked is "Underneath the Maru mask... is Maru."

Get it to sing the Katamari theme and my apartment would be a lot easier to clean.

Unlike me in the cockatoo threads, here I will urge everyone to get a cockatiel, if you want a bird and can take care of one :] My Chicory is the best bird I've ever met.

OMG, Navelgazer, I was just wondering what I should teach my little nugget next, and that's a great suggestion. Since he simply refuses to learn the Mozart arias I've been whistling at him for months now, in favor of a distinctly tuneless rendition of "Deep in the Heart of Texas." Like lollusc's friend's bird, he can never seem to get the last note right.

MeFi cockatiel slaves unite!
