Looking for a new esoteric language to learn? Try rally notes. Learn the symbols or study these sample rally notes. Not esoteric enough? Try the Jemba Inertia Notes System.

Fun example from Wikipedia:
"MC1 100 KL2 100 KR2 200 SQL 100 KR4 50J!→R2+ (D/C!) 100 +SQR 400 F→CR→KL4 100 MC2"

Translation:
From Main Control 1 (start), 100 metres straight to a kink left, severity 2
100 metres, kink right severity 2
200 m, square left (90°)
100 m, kink right severity 4
50 m, Jump (caution!) into immediate right hand bend severity 2 tightens (caution, don't cut [the corner, due to hazard on the inside]!)
100 m, oversquare right
400 m, flat (maximum speed) into crest into kink left severity 4
100 m to Main Control 2 (finish)

Heh. My brother used to play Colin McRae Rally for hours at a time, so reading that I can hear the sampled voice from it in my head.

Rallying is by far the most insane motorsport. I wish it got more coverage here in the US because man is it impressive.

Growing up we went to watch it live as a family a couple of times, which basically went standing in a puddle at a curve in a mud track waiting for a car to drive past, and then another one later, and so on.

What's the notation for "YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO MY CALLS PLEASE I BEG YOU"?

I somehow didn't consider Speed Racer-like navigators were a real thing. This is fascinating, thanks!

i would pay so much money to have a turn-by-turn nav app that would shout directions at me as rally notes instead of the boring 'in half a mile, turn right'.

Colin McRae Rally was so fun, you really had to concentrate to get through a stage. I'd get tired out just playing, I can't imagine how tough it is in real life with all the noise making your co-driver hard to hear too. Plus in real life it's a lot more expensive to reduce your car to a wheel-less smoking frame.

The guy in the Understanding Co-drivers for Newbs video is so chill, I want to watch him explain a hundred other things.

Weirdly there is no game where you struggle to read a mud and oil splattered map and yell out instructions over engine noise.

If I was a co-driver the only thing my driver would be hearing would be various swear words and sobbing requests to slow down.

Oh man, Samir and his navigator are the idea the Colin McRae team is looking for to finally create a fantastic single-screen two-player rally game.
