The Proselytizing Atheist: An interesting and, I'm assuming, non-sarcastic rant over at Adequacy.org.

An interesting and, I'm assuming, non-sarcastic rant over at Adequacy.org.

Why would you assume that? My only thought is that you are either naïve and unfamiliar with the site, or are in fact an editor there.

Adequacy articles don't deserve coverage on other sites. I conciously stay away from that troll haven and don't appreciate it intruding into sites I do visit like a drunken fool looking for attention.

A nice, non-aggressive way of saying that, Khalad, would have been to point Crasspastor here

Adequacy has always been an enigma to me. Trolls or no, I usually get a chuckle out of many of the authors, as they always seem to be writing from the standpoint of their alter-egos. Thanks for pointing out that link to me Doug.

Back on topic as such. I posted this link as a quasi-response to the perennial religious fisticuffs that rears its head here at MeFi. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to see atheism supported so strongly in a given population. But proselytizing of all sorts annoys me mightily. Sure I'm guilty of it. We all are. Which is perhaps, why I thought I might honestly share this with y'all, as an atheist and all. In fact, witness my nickname, totally invented at a time when all I did was engage in religious debate. Lived for it, in fact.

I conciously stay away from that troll haven and don't appreciate it intruding into sites I do visit like a drunken fool looking for attention.

I suppose the jury's still out on whether MeFi can be officially construed as a flame-haven.

I am amazed that an article I probably agree with can annoy me that much just be sheer asshole-ish tone.

The adequacy article was amusing at first, but droning inevitably puts me to sleep, and my finger automatically hit the scroll button. I'm not sure which is worse, religious proselytizers, atheist proselytizers, or people who waste way too much time and energy dissecting (and splitting their own hairs in the process) of material that's hardly worth a first glance.

Adequacy does have some good stuff now and then, but it isn't worth slogging through the vast amounts of self-centered, my-vocabulary-and-reading list-are bigger-than-yours oneupmanship.

(And women are supposed to be the catty ones!)
