This is way worse than The Shaggs. And why does the Prince cover of "When Doves Cry" have a photo of Michael Jackson with a recorder in his mouth? Can someone please un-invent the internet?

I held it down to giggling until I played the Africa one and then I actually cried.

Well played. For the songs by A-ha, Toto, Bee Gees, Queen and ABBA, those are the only versions I can stomach.

It's not a flute. It's a recorder.

Also, you missed My Heart Will Go On which first started this meme.

I have long recognized "Shittyflute" as an alternate term for "Recorder", especially for those like me who grew up with cassette recorders (especially the Craig brand which was the only time I was proud of the first name I dropped in favor of Wendell, but I digress).

I thought "this is awful, this isn't funny"

30 seconds later I'm laughing so loud I wake up my kids.

More 20th Century Fox Intro: Kazoo, Kazoo 2 (this one isn't even trying), Flute (sounds more like a tin whistle), Harmonica, Slide Whistle, Clarinet (officially designated 'Fail'), Trombone, Bagpipes, Donald Duck (who is a copyright character of Disney), Kazoo, Tin Whistle, Quena & Bongo and the entire Orchestra of Fail.
Bonus: Universal Studios Intro. YouTube is an incredible resource, isn't it?

So this is every middle-school "I chose the recorder cause I had to pick an instrument" recital, . . .

[RANDOM KIDS' THOUGHTS] the music sucks because the stoopid music teacher think's she's "rad" and "hip" and "with it", and oh gawd I am getting used to the stage lights and I can't believe my PARENTS are here and oh my god there's Joey, IS HE LOOKING AT ME???? if he sees me with my parents I. WILL. DIE. OK there's the stooopid teacher turning on the CD player. Please let this be over quickly. and one and two and three...

[MUSIC] OH YOU CAN TELL BY THE WAY I USE MY WALK I'M A WOMANS MAN NO TIME TO TALK....

[KIDS' THOUGHTS] AHH geez I fucked up ALL the notes!!

[PARENTS' THOUGHTS] Oh I am soooo prooooooud! I hope she doesn't see me waving!

[JOEY'S THOUGHTS] I am taking violin because I had to choose an instrument and fuuuuck I'm up next and I'm gonna shit . . .

I'm not sure what I was expecting when I started Stayin' Alive, but it wasn't that. Within two bars I had totally lost my shit.

The other day at lunch I had a long argument with a colleague, about whether kids learning to play the recorder at school is a waste of time. My position was for (you can't really learn music without an instrument, and it's easy and cheap to buy), his was against (it's a stupid instrument, the time would be better spent on sportsball).

I am forwarding videos from this thread in support of my argument.

I was really bothered by the cover of More Than A Feeling. For example, in measure 34 the recorder trills when a subtle, decrescendoing vibrato is much more appropriate.
