The totals include the ongoing sale, so right now everyone's at a local minimum (there's a sale total but it looks like that is the lowest-ever price, whereas the other total is as of whenever the page is loaded). I lost about 2/3 of my account's total value just from that.

The thing I most cringed at in my chart was having 20% totally unplayed, especially because I know that I must have at least that number of games that I've played once for 20 minutes and never come back to.

The way they calculate value makes it hard to tell how much you've actually put into games. I'm assuming that's as close as they get, since Steam probably doesn't provide historic price data. My account value is $897, but I would assume its time-of-purchase worth might be at least a third higher.

I was surprised that I only had 2,563 hours, but I also realize that some of my most played games have been on consoles, and obviously that doesn't factor in. Still, 10 days total over ten years is also less than I would've expected.

One thing to keep in mind is that -- I'm pretty sure -- Steam hasn't always tracked amount of time played. For those of us with older accounts, I think that there's a lot of playtime unaccounted for, which would probably show up especially in especially popular older games. I'd also expect that the farther back you go, you'd be more likely to have played offline.

It's kind of weird to see that I've been on Steam for 13 years. It's disconcerting that still-extant internet things I've done or doing are pushing the twenty year mark (like here).

This brings to light the idea of reselling of accounts after someone quits gaming, moves off grid, and/or dies... has anyone really plumbed those depths yet? Surely the internet has me covered.... It's odd to think of putting a steam login in a will or a account greymarket or virtual horse-trading lot for steam accounts yet here I am.

Not to mention that I initially, years ago, tended to avoid Steam due to the whole "I don't want to 'license' my games when I can buy physical copies that I can resale and/or keep forever. That sounds inefficient and/or like a dumb choice for me." That turns out, admittedly because of the staying power that Steam has had, to have been 100% wrong because, let's see where is that HALO 1 disc I had years ago, oh yea, not like I could play it anyway....

Interesting thoughts anyway...

Nothing $50+, which is definitely wrong. I guess all the games I bought at full price got reductions afterward. I'm also pleased to note that the vast majority of my "games not played" are actually older games that I played the shit out of before Steam started tracking played time.

My top played game is Lord of the Rings Online with 678.8h played. Which isn't even close to accurate, because I started playing a couple of years before it got on Steam. I believe most of my raiding time happened before I started playing on the Steam version, too. I haven't done a /played in a while, but I'm guessing it's at least twice what Steam tracked.

It's a good game, you guys.

I use gaugepowered to track what I actually paid for stuff (by manually typing in what I paid for it) and that says £4,914.63 - though a significant portion of that was add-ons and DLC-type stuff purchased outside of Steam so the figure above is a reasonable estimate.

Since I bought a large number of games via bundles where I was only interested in one or two of the games available for Linux I have a large number of Windows-only games that I'll probably never play. It was still cheaper to buy the bundles than the individual games I wanted.

For what it's worth my top 6 (since 2009) are: Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues, 2,141 hrs; Borderlands 2, 378 hrs; Sid Meier's Civilization V, 136 hrs; Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, 130 hrs; Motorsport Manager, 109 hrs; Rocket League, 108 hrs. (Top 6 because that's all the ones I've played for more than 100 hours)

One thing to keep in mind is that -- I'm pretty sure -- Steam hasn't always tracked amount of time played. For those of us with older accounts, I think that there's a lot of playtime unaccounted for, which would probably show up especially in especially popular older games.

Steam has tracked playtime since March 2009. I wasn't playing games much around then (no Steam for Linux at that time), so I'm really only missing a few hundred hours in CS:S as far as games bought through Steam are concerned.

Does anyone understand the sticker thing that this sale's gimmick? I got 3 packs and put, like, 5 of them onto pages but I don't really understand the point of any of this.

As you complete the pages you 'unlock' them, not sure if there's a wider point besides just more collectables at this stage. Not seen that you can trade or sell them like the trading cards as yet.

Most played game: Borderlands 2 (about 200hrs). One of the rare games I kept playing after finishing the main story.

One thing I noticed is a lot of "Products' included in their calcuation are counted as games, but... probably shouldn't be. Like, Life is Strange is one game, but it includes 9 Directors Commentary products that Steam considered unplayed. I watched at least a couple of the videos and they weren't counted. But besides that, I'm pretty sure they came free with the game since I wouldn't normally spend money on extras like that.

So, if I only count games and remove duplicates and other oddities my unplayed percentage goes from 42% (70 unplayed / 168 total) to 35% (52 unplayed / 150 total). This is just to say that it's possible a lot of these 'unplayed' games really aren't. And I definitely have reduced the amount of games I buy and I've been trying to work through my library. Still bought 7 games yesterday though...

$2025, 4k hours. The hours is totally inflated because I just leave stuff running in the background all the time. I think I had dark souls left on for like a month straight at one point. I've only paid full price for a handful of things, quite a lot of them are from humble bundles (and even more that I haven't redeemed the keys for).

I don't really mind the unplayed games (40%), a few are things I picked up super cheap because I had them on other platforms or might want to play through again (Civ, Saints Row). I'm more bugged by the occasional games I pay full price and then barely play. Like SF5. Stupid no arcade mode.

Yeesh.

...to be fair, the vast majority of that backlog is from Humble Bundles with a few sub-$5 sale impulse purchases thrown in—I add everything from a bundle that I don't already own and I might consider playing someday to my account; I think the only games I've paid even close to MSRP for in the past year were Dark Souls 3 and INSIDE.

I mean I've played those too, twice in the case of F3 and F:NV, but even then, no way would I have cracked the 100 hour mark, and I take it slow, explore loads, and do every single side mission. What's going on? ARE YOU JUST GOING AROUND SKYRIM AND COLLECTING EVERY SINGLE CHEESE AND PUTTING THE CHEESE IN YOUR HOUSE?

but those of you who have logged 100+ hours in e.g. Fallout: New Vegas or Skyrim...what are you doing, exactly?

Mostly just playing through them more than twice. And trying things like just murdering Danse when you first meet him. THIS IS AWESOME! You never have to hear his stupid voice or do dumb bigot missions for the dumb bigots!

Futzing with mods. Like, loading Tale of Two Wastelands means starting FO3 and NV all over again. Loading modern firearms for FO4 also sort of... demands?... that because it changes playstyle a lot.

In FO4, futzing with bases and robots.

I apparently racked up 144 hours on LA Noire and absolutely the only explanation I can imagine for that is that I accidentally left it on the menu screen over a long weekend.

Also, my insatiable lust for stupid cards means I have to run through 3 discovery queues a day now, and holy fucking shit is there a lot of trash in the Steam store. They say the adventure game is dead but I've seen 5 a day for a week now, and none that look particularly good. It also looks like companies have ported a whole bunch of pre-2006 console games in case you'd like to play Devil May Cry or Turok 2.
