I just finished reading The Shining, so topiary makes me nervous.
But these are beautiful.

I just love this, and what a lovely kitty it must be based on. Plus somehow a giant friendly green cat reminds me of Totoro.

I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into their hedges, or why.

Funny. This is what we call our kitty when she grooms, because she likes to pull her hair out around her tail so that it makes a Sonic the Hedgehog spike shape.

I'm old enough to remember the ORIGINAL Top Cat, voiced by Arnold Stang doing a Phil Silvers impression. With a gang of alley cats that included Benny the Ball, Choo-Choo, Fancy-Fancy, Spook and Brain (the last two voiced by an actor appropriately named Leo DeLyon). And with NYPD Officer Dibble as the urban equivalent of Yogi Bear's Ranger Smith. Serious animated nostalgia from when I was 6 years old and my parents let me stay up an extra half hour when a prime-time cartoon was on. Now, what's this about topiary?

What, no mention of the real life Topiary Cat? He can be met in the Belfast (Cat) Castle Garden.

There's a (sort of) topiary cat just down the road from where I live, Whittington Park (second picture down). A little further up the same hill is Whittington Hospital (perhaps the only hospital named after a pantomine character) , which has a cat as its logo, and a statue of Dick Whittington's cat on a milestone.

Basically, the local authorities just took that cat and ran with it.

Fuchsoid: You're just cementing my opinion that what the world needs is a global database / map of cat-themed public art.
