I just lost my Husky-Shepherd pal Nala 2 weeks ago suddenly. She was way too young and I miss her more than I thought I would. I really kind of hated her howl a lot of times but it's so quiet now. She looked and sounded just like the pup in the "at" link. Thanks, this is the post I didn't know I needed and I love it. Three weeks ago it might have been annoying because she would have been singing along.

A friend used to have a beagle, Shane, who was a howler, but only when I played Amazing Grace on the harmonica for him. Other songs, he’d get a little agitated like he wanted to howl, maybe let out a few snorts and an exploratory woo, but he never got into it.

Amazing Grace, though: full on singing, every time.

I love these videos.

CttW -- We lost our Husky-Shepherd-BlackLab girl Luna a few years ago. We were lucky; she was 14, but it's rough just the same.

Luna would howl, all the time, but what really set her off was when we'd raise the window blinds. It set her off into a frenzy of lunging, leaping, snapping and howling every single time. But the best was when we finally had kids, and they'd babble at her, and she'd howl in response. Huskies are the best.

Amazing Grace was also Hobbes' favorite song, though he had a taste for church and choral music in general. "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" would also get him going every time.
