"Yannis Behrakis, one of Reuters' most decorated and best-loved photographers, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 58".
A Pulitzer prize winner with the Reuters photography team, Behrakis was a veteran war reporter in Sierra Leone where he almost got killed (youtube). He won the Pulitzer for his work covering the 2015 European migrant crisis. In the past decade he also bore witness to his native Greece's deep crisis, covering the surge of homelessness, its rapid deindustrialization, the social upheaval, and many aspects of the migrant crisis.
In this interview he described how he tried to be "The voice of [the refugees] and the eyes of those on the other side"
His photographs are strong and often beautiful. His talk (the almost got killed link) is worth watching, too.

Thanks for the post.
When he talks in the interview about his grandmother coming to Greece as a refugee from Izmir, Turkey in 1922, that would be the timeframe of the Greek genocide in the Ottoman Empire which followed a few years after the Armenian genocide. After that was the 1923 forced population exchange between Greece and Turkey.
