This is the most perfect pairing of people ever.

I don't know if they'd want to cross their streams, but maybe?

I've loved music by strong women all my life, and strong women of color make up a giant proportion of that, going back to Janet and Paula and others back in the 80s. Janelle and Lizzo are totally part of my jam these days.

Thanks so much for posting!

I had been feeling like I was stuck in a musical rut until last April when I heard Janelle Monae on KEXP. Now life is good again! (Though I wish for more music by her.)

I'm glad that she is using her platform to attempt to erode conceptual barriers regarding sexual identity.

Amen.

I just recently met/worked with Lizzo for the first time, after never once having heard of her. I left completely impressed and am dying to seek some stuff out when I have some free time. She was full of fantastic positive energy, had a ton of great things to say, and was utterly charming to boot.

This is great. I love them both. I remember seeing one of Janelle's early shows and to see where she is now from then personally and artistically is incredible. I'm glad she can be so free and so happy and so open now.

Lizzo was on the Switched on Pop podcast last year talking about Monae's "Make Me Feel," it's a great segment and I highly recommend it!

With Dirty Computer, I made a bigger declaration to myself — that I'm not putting out an album if I can't be all of me. You're gonna take the blackness, you're gonna take the fact that I love science fiction. You're gonna take the fact that I am a free ass motherfucker. You're gonna take that all in and because that is what you're gonna get.

...

It can make self-care feel like a luxury, when people are being so aggressively oppressed — not just in their own neighborhoods, but throughout the country, by our administration. And because my messaging is self-care, because my messaging is self-love, it makes me want to reappropriate the term “self-care” into something that could save your life. [...] It’s like, “How do I take care of myself in this world that's not designed to take care of me?”

Aaaaaaaa I love them both!

I got to see Janelle perform last year, and it was awe-inspiring. Besides her ridiculous chops as a singer, dancer, rapper, all of it, she touched on so many heavy subjects but channelled it all into something that was ultimately uplifting and full of love. Not despair in the face of adversity: inspiration and hope.

I saw her on that tour too, she was amazing!

Lizzo's new album dropped today and it's amazing. "Like A Girl" should be Warren's or Harris's campaign song if they haven't named one yet...

Lizzo has an opinion piece in NBC News - Self-care has to be rooted in self-preservation, not just mimosas and spa days
