Oh! I just started seeing these around my neighborhood recently. Mostly pothos, though someone left a cut flower in one yesterday. I didn't know it was a thing.

This is great! I have a free garden and am going to be adding a seedling station soon. I've posted about mine on MeTa and I mentioned what a source of joy and comfort it has been for me.

For anyone considering doing this, PLEASE DO IT! You can make a very real difference in your neighborhood and it will make you feel really good too.

When I started my garden I had no idead it was a thing. Since then I've found the Little Free Garden organization which is full of useful information for starting your own garden and more. I began cutting flowers and offering bouquets when I stumbled on a story about a woman running a Little Free Florist.

This community is so creative and smart and helpful that I also made an Ask and got a lot of awesome ideas for expanding/improving on my garden.

I could go on and on about the countless amazing interactions I've had because of the free garden and how it's really saved me in a lot of ways (I started it just when I had pretty much given up on other humans and myself). It is the root of all that is pure and true and good in my world right now.

My local town email list does this extemporaneously, I've a couple Lilies of the Valley that may become established and a few herbs. Don't know if it can become quite as widespread as the little libraries that would be wonderful.

If anyone wants to start one in Santa Rosa, Ca, I can take and leaf some plants.
