I'm thinking of Ann and Nancy Wilson plus Jason Bonham pounding out Stairway to Heaven and sending chills up the spines of Robert and Jimmy.

Well, I mean, I guess it was just a matter of time before somebody stumbled into their parents' old B52's cassettes.

I would like to go to the Goth Beach. I love beaches and this one looks body-positive and asshole-free, which is rare. Also there are cloves! Alas for cloves, which I loved

Resistance to Goth is futile

This is so unrealistic and gross!

Everyone knows that if goths are going to go to the beach they do it after dark and before sunrise so you don't need all that sunscreen, and the beach is empty, there's no normal people around, and you don't get in trouble for smoking and drinking. Plus the sand sparkles at night with luminescent bacteria with or without psychedelics.

I mean, at least that's the way we did it in Southern California.

loquacious, honey, I adore you. You've been a metafilter crush for years, decades. Trust me when I say lace, leather, cloves, Boone's, and tromping along the waterline leaving boot prints and processing life are lovely on a crisp cool day.

How common this can be may well be a factor of how mobbed a given beach gets.

Goth Beach sounds like a great place to take a Vampire Girl on a moonlight walk.

'I've never seen a Goth with no shoes on before.'

Spoiler alert for those who haven't seen Netflix's adaption of "Sandman" yet:

This reminds me of scene from the episode where the main character's sister, Death, turns up for a chat, and as they're walking around the city suggests to him that he should take off his shoes for a bit. Knowing full well that nothing in the world could induce him to do that. I hadn't put that together with his general Goth aesthetic, but I guess maybe there's a connection?

Yeah, I think I was reacting to my memories of SoCal beaches which are rarely cool or crisp and are always insanely hot and too sunny. Though I'm a darkwave kid at heart, I also grew up surfing and immersed in parts of that culture because my dad surfed so much at one point he was a board shaper.

But I should definitely know better because I know other kinds of beaches exist, and stomping around on cool, crisp beaches in the Pacific Northwest is something I do regularly. I still think I prefer them at night, though.

The whole concept of PNW beaches is still so novel to me even though I've been here for so long. Novel to me as in how they are mostly all slim, craggy little slivers of a beach covered in rocks, giant driftwood logs, kelp and moss at the same time, often with forests that go right out to the high tide line. They must be among the most goth kind of beach because it's almost impossible to get sunburned even without sunscreen.

You ever find your way down towards the Alsea Bay area, or really anywhere south of Lincoln City, you can get a fantastic mix of both from which to choose. Stand at Perpetua or anywhere along Seal Rock for awesome windy gloomy cliff drama action, or trudge along that whole stretch across Patterson if you want to get broad and sandy and lonely.

Yes, yes, I know. Tell me you were a kid on the central coast without telling me you were a kid on the central coast. Met some of my favorite goths out there.
