Yvonne Smink and the artistry of pole dancing

Yvonne Smink creates extraordinary performances that the phrase "pole dancing" barely begins to describe.

Smink moved from wall climbing to pole dancing in 2011; by 2014 she was the Dutch champion (here is her 2015 performance at Pole Art France for a sample of her work in competition). But her Instagram is the place to see her recent work, which is breathtaking. 1. Smink dancing on the Paris Metro; 2. Smink leaping between and across balconies; and 3. an amazing piece with with three dancers.

"Daydreaming" is a longer piece directed by Christopher Hanany.

These are cool. I think the video of her leaping between and across balconies might be one of those optical illusion things where the balconies are painted on the floor? Looking that cool spinning herself around on the floor on the other hand, would be only minutely less impressive than if she is doing that on balconies.

Pole dancing always looks so amazing, and she is especially amazing.

The strength needed to do this is incredible.

Her art is amazing, and I love that you shared these!! But what's wrong with simply calling it pole dancing? I like that she uses the term with pride and without apology or explanation.

Indians don't do a bad job at it either. They have a Martial Art/Gymnastic thing called "Mallakhamb" that does pole dancing.

I'm not a complete weakling, but I don't have 1/10th of the core strength to do what she is doing. Maybe not 1/20th.
