It's like that scene in PCU where the dude sees Caine and Hackman in the same film. This is my thesis!

or maybe not. I wonder what the numbers are on Mefites + Farkers

Fark? Never heard of it. It's on my bookmark list now.

Did not know Fark survived that long. Did it ever grow up or is it still one step above 4chan?

Ryan North, on the other hand? That guy is a serious GET. From webcomics to comic books to books to getting stuck in a hole on Twitter, is there nothing he can't do?

Ryan North is relentlessly delightful and if you can make any talk with Ryan I 10000% endorse it. I'm sorry I'm busy that night!

Fark is still Fark, which I've heard described as "rowdy," but they've taken steps towards increasing inclusivity. And I gather that they watched with some dismay when Something Awful and 4chan descended beneath their level. We'll discuss that at the talk, I'm sure!

The Ryan North event has been made free, BTW! If you enjoy it, please consider a site donation if you haven't made one already.

Fark just recently let commenters swear in their comments. not for free, mind you. In case we were still looking for ways to raise cash.

I read Fark before I joined mefi. In fact the friend who told me about mefi, told me about it in a "hey if you like Fark maybe you'd like mefi better" kind of way. He was right, I did. Both places were much more, um, boyzone-y, back in those days (just shy of 20 years ago, I lurked at mefi for a while before joining); I'm glad to see how that's changed here. I haven't been on Fark in ages, so I'll be interested to hear an update on it.

And I am also a possessor of a spherical green dinosaur (with soft fuzzy underbelly). So yeah, these events are in my wheelhouse. Hoping to join for at least one.

I listened to Ryan North's recent presentation to the Long Now Foundation on their podcast and it was fantastic: interesting and funny.
