Flappers are killing the whaling industry

I notice none of these include citations to peer-reviewed studies. I'm not sure if we can trust these assertions.

"One of the recent factors to affect agriculture has been the decree of fashion that all women who matter must have slender figures [...] This has made a definite reduction in the demand for potatoes, starchy vegetables and fattening foods"

This explains so much about the last few weeks. I don't want to alarm anyone but:

When is Ron DeSantis going to crack down on flappers? He hasn't said one word about them. He's really dropping the ball here.

I lost my job and I'm pretty sure my boss said "Vo-do-do-dee-oh" at the very end of the Zoom call.

I always try to warn the youth when I see them wearing strings of pearls and Charlestoning for TikTok. I don't like the way they move their arms to the jungle rhythms of jazz...

One time my friend drank a whiskey sour at a speakeasy right after bobbing her hair and then she died.

OK it was a friend of a friend, but you get the point.

I am only concerned about the sanctity of marriage and the purity of women. That's why I bring these things up. /S

Why on earth were barbers against bobbed hair?

These are pretty hilarious, but what’s sad is the misogynist politician blaming Prohibition on women—because he was right. Prohibition was a feminist cause at the time. I’ve often wondered about the damage it did to American feminism, which more or less vanished as a cause after suffrage was won until the second wave.

Whaling! Overshoes! Ocular loop de loop! Physics misfits!

Now I know how this country went so wrong.

my grandmother was a flapper. Or so I was told by my mom not long before she (my mom) died.

"What were flappers?" I had to ask.

"They liked to dance and have fun, that sort of thing."

Full reveal. My grandmother did hail from Halifax, Nova Scotia, a major port city with an active fishery. So there's every possibility she did her bit to undermine the whaling industry.

Any will take any opportunity to point out the fact that until the US introduced the Endangered Species Act in 1972, whale oil was still a component in automobile transmission fluid.

FLAPPER'S FANNIES BLAMED FOR ECHOES IN RADIO RECEPTION. I can believe that. I have caressed some asses that were a force of Nature / blessing from God. All hail Flapper's fannies!

This can be laid squarely at the feet of Flappers, Beatniks, Hippies, Hipsters, Millenials, Gen Z.

I think Minnie Mouse might count as a flapper. I mean, she's no Betty Boop but I'm pretty sure she never wears a corset.

Ms. Windo's grandmother was a flapper back in the day. She was probably 80 when I met her, so I was unaware of her destructive years. But, looking back, I can see how she would have done all these terrible things to society...

She was a badass

This is the guy who said that flappers were making American women ugly. Albert E. Wiggam: eugenicist, misogynist, white Nordic supremacist, chiseled Adonis.

No relation to the Springfield chief of police...probably.

Read the last one carefully. The judge was upset that a sixteen year old was asking for a divorce. A child was trying to get out of her marriage. And the flappers were to blame.

"Oh this generation is worse than the hippies, the flappers and the Nazis combined!"
"The hippies gave us those fat watch bands, and the flappers could dance, and the Nazis had that song 'Eight Days a Week'"

Proud granddaughter and great-niece here of the first girls in their neighborhood to bob their hair. Lively, witty set of four sisters (they also wrote a terrific group journal about a New York to California round trip in a Model A Ford) and I miss them all very much.

No, but that would be a great project to take on. I should absolutely do that. Thanks for the idea, tavella!
