Philip K Dick Speaks in Metz, France in 1977

As noted in the comments on YouTube, someone edited out the translator's part of the interview for reasons of brevity and, no doubt, as a kindness to the mostly monoglot American audience. Alas, if only there was an accompanying transcript.

And as A. A. Ryan aka @arzabael writes in the comments thereto:

Can't believable how laughable something can seem one decade and easily understandable it can be decades later. All of us are learning together.

From his lips to God's ears...

Previously. A version of the speech was published in The Shifting Realities of Philip K. Dick.

Dang, and it would be Katullus, too.

Well, once again it did not show up as posted in Preview..

OTOH, it's been two years and bears re-posting.

I must weave my nets to a much finer cross-section...

I missed it last time, so have no problem seeing it stay. Also ... something something orthogonal time, of course this is how it should manifest.

Well, it took me nigh unto forever to find the transcript but it was worthwhile all the same -- if only to read clavdivs's discourse on the effects of ketamine consumption. Talk about something something orthogonal time!

I will add this: I was not a big fan of Philip K Dick's later works with the big big exception of A Scanner Darkly, which I found heartbreakingly sad right up to his discovery of the source of Substance D.

To the best of my orthogonally timewise knowledge, I never saw the movie, being put off by the rotoscoped animation part, but now after reading the director and cast list -- Richard Linklater, Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr, Woody Harrelson, Winona Ryder and Rory Cochrane -- I have to say I have or may have had to reconsider this omission. Insofar as I "know."

It may be an exception to my belief that no truly-faithful-to-the-source motion picture of any novel, novella or short story by Philip K Dick has ever been made.

I only hope I live to see one such made of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep complete with post-nuclear war depopulated California, the on 24/7 Buster Friendly Show, empathy boxes, the religion of Mercerism and Wilbur Mercer himself materializing out of a walk to revive a spider whose legs were pulled by Roy Batty and his android friends. As much as I loved the otherwise completely unrelated to Philip K Dick cinematic Bladerunner universe, that would, could or will be a revelation.

...Though the doctor told me I was technically awake the whole time anyways.

Yet another tagline for the ages
