Kevin the baby echidna, who was saved from floodwaters, reunited with Kevin his rescuer. Last year "Kevin" the baby echidna was pulled from floodwaters along the Darling River, shivering and alone. After 11 months of rehabilitation he was released back into the wild β€” but not before he was reunited with his rescuer.

OMG this is the best thing, a baby Echidna is called a puggle? πŸ₯°

Such a nice story. I had to relocate an echidna the other day from my pool enclosure to my neighbours much safrer scrubby paddock. I can tell you - whatever gloves that man is wearing in the pic whilst holding Kevin, I really need a pair because my welding gloves (used for everything except welding in the last couple of years) were not up to snuff. Worth the pain to see my one waddle off though.

What a wild coincidence that they were both named Kevin. It’s like it was meant to be!

"You could cuddle him and he went down my shirt last time but you wouldn't want to do it now." ummm, yep, checks out. :)

The story from last year has much squishy puggle squee: Baby echidna saved from floodwaters in Menindee, outback NSW - ABC News.

Kevin's doubly lucky: first to be found, then to be sent to a rehab centre that had only recently purchased echidna milk. I'm guessing this isn't the sort of thing you can pick up at the corner store.

Echidnas are great! And now I have a (thin) excuse to share my wild echidna story.

Some years ago, I was walking along a fire trail in The Dandenongs hills/mountains near Melbourne, Victoria with my partner. We spied an adult echidna ahead of us, maybe 20-30 metres away, walking towards us. We stopped to watch it, keeping still so we didn't upset or disturb it.

It just trundled on past us, in that distinctive stoic echidna way, rubbing past my stationary boot. There was plenty of room around me, it just didn't seem to care. I could have been a tree. Or a particularly stupid rock.

Just a creature going about its business, seemingly without a care in the world. Strangely calming to behold. It was the best!

I often think of that echidna and how I'd like to just trundle along, unbothered by the world around me.

But tomorrow is another day..., a friend of mine was walking in the Australian National Botanic Gardens and had an echidna walk over her sneakers! She saw it by the side of the walking path, and stopped, and it just kept walking in the same direction it was travelling, which took it right over her sneakers.

I, too, would probably give fewer fucks if I was covered with sharp spines with which to smite my enemies.

I love their obliviousness and/or disdain!

Not an echidna story, but I had a tamandua use me as a stunned and silent obstacle as it went about its business. I just froze as it marched towards me out of the forest and thought "do I move aside? Is he going to go around?" Nope, right between the legs, stupid pink rock.
