Grocery shopping with Sidney Poitier

A visit to a supermarket with Sidney Poitier in 1965, a short clip from A Patch Of Blue. So many cans!

Previously, from 2002: About Sidney Poitier (1927-2022). How come nobody posted an obituary thread for him? A regrettable oversight.

This sentence from the Wikipedia article is going to stick with me: "Scenes of Poitier and Hartman kissing were cut from the film when it was shown in film theaters in the Southern United States."

Watching Poitier is always a rewarding use of my time - charismatic beyond belief. And that time capsule of a grocery store is delightful.

It is really unfair how much charm some people get to cultivate. :)

So, so, so many cans!

…and they seem expensive too— it’s approximately one zillion years later and some of the things they’re selling for 59 cents I can still buy for $1.20?

Jazz vibraphonist Walt Dickerson recorded an album, Impressions of 'A Patch of Blue,' inspired by Jerry Goldsmith's score, with Sun Ra playing piano, harpsichord, and celeste. Worth hearing, if you like that kind of thing.

So many cans!

As someone who grew up in the 60s I have zero nostalgia for the food. But plenty for Sidney Poitier.

Funny, the canned green beans taste the same. You think there would have been some improvement.

Sidney Poitier obit thread.

With mine, the first comment! Unfortunately I'd forgotten, and it didn't come up on an Advanced Google search of Poitier and www.metaflter.com.

This is by far my favorite Sidney Poitier movie, for some reason, and I love seeing a clip from it posted here on the Blue! Thank you, Rash :)
