Is there Life on Mars?

Is there Life on Mars? As NASA announce a nuclear-powered Mars and beyond project, British scientists are looking forward to the launch of the Beagle 2 which will search for signs of life on the Red Planet. Is this the return of the Space Race in a new form? And will they find any sign of life?

Beagle 2 is absolutely brilliant. Despite the vague involvement of Damien Hirst and Blur, it isn't getting anywhere near the British press attention it deserves.
I'm glad they're not launching it on one of these.

I actually work on Mars Express.

Mars is a fascinating place, but I am sceptical that it has ever had life, let alone has life now. There's a need among people to feel that we aren't alone out there. That's why the SETI program exists, and the planetary search. A lot of people are just projecting those wishes onto our near neighbour, without any justification, IMHO.

From what I've heard, it's still touch and go as to whether Beagle 2 will even be ready for Mars Express's launch.

I hadn't heard this, I've got quite a few friends working on the assembly and will try and find out some info as to how its going.
