For then entire month of July, the folks at sh1ft.org have been holding an international photographic scavenger hunt called 26 things. The hunt involves taking pictures of abstract topics such as love or symmetry. With over 300 sets so far, they have lots of great pics, any MeFi users do this?

I was doing it until on one photo shooting day I dropped my camera while taking a picture of a sign that said "caution: children".      :(

Sure. rub it in that I didn't get my account until after the "We have cameras" thread.

[p.s. this is good.]

Yeah, I did it. It was a fun project. Lots of abstract words that took some thought, and lots of concrete words where it took a few tries to attempt to get past the obvious.

I went for it, too. It was a lot of fun, and I'm finding the entries from outside the US especially fascinating.

I'm happy to put down my camera for a bit, though, and not be checking off things in my head... ;)

Oh, I love this! It's almost a visual form of word-association--so fascinating to see what different meanings people attach to what we often think of as concrete objects.

willnot, I especially liked your “time” and “communication,” and metrocake, your “you,” “symmetry,” and “footwear.”

I did it as well. It was very fun to do. Though I must remember not to procrastinate uploading the photos until the deadline day... :|

Oooh great stuff everyone!

holgate and I collaborated on one. It's here.

It was a fun project to be part of. I wish there was some way to view all the entrants' photos by category, though (all the looove photos, for example).

Mine will be up within the next few days, after I bring my website out of mothballs. That said, I would really like it if someone did a serious scavenger hunt with items or concepts one would have to really search out instead of stuff that could be found aound the house or a rehash of recent Theme Thursday or Photo Friday topics. It'd be quite a kick to see photos that weren't just interpretations of common words but instead had a real element of a hunt to it.

Hmm, now that I think on it, maybe I should do something like that myself. Hopefully if I do, some nice MeFite will do an FPP about it to give me publicity.
