Several millions blogs, several new babies, sorry this does not compute as a boom. though nice enough for the individuals involved. posted by billsaysthis at 7:02 PM on February 5, 2004
I was thinking the same thing...
I was already aware of Dooce... but there was also

A-listers have babies, story at 10:00.
I enjoy 2/3's of those bloggers you mentioned, frequently, but is the point of this post a two month old TMN story? I don't get it either. posted by Ufez Jones at 7:20 PM on February 5, 2004
If these three new kids are half as cute as their parents are funny online, they'll be... really, really cute. posted by mathowie at 7:22 PM on February 5, 2004
Was there a blogout about 9 months ago? posted by drezdn at 7:23 PM on February 5, 2004
Actually no, but 9 months ago there was this big blog meetup that I didn't attend, but they say it lasted well into the morning. Wonder what happened there. posted by Hildago at 7:42 PM on February 5, 2004
I know someone who had a baby once. posted by angry modem at 7:55 PM on February 5, 2004

Maybe it is the reverse - people who have babies are more likely to have a weblog personal web site? posted by dg at 8:24 PM on February 5, 2004
As a follow up to this post from almost four years ago, I'd love to hear folks' recommended baby blog sites. Many of the sites linked in the 2000 thread are no longer around.
I'm excited to see how Dooce and Yeti integrate their babies and senses of humor. It's always fun to see entertaining writers work with new material, and certainly babies give folks a lot of to work with! posted by arielmeadow at 8:34 PM on February 5, 2004
Do you want to bring kids into this world? John Edwards says"When parents bring a child into this world, they have a responsibility to provide a safe home, a good education, and a lot of love,,." Then he tries to sell you health insurance or something. Personally, I think unborn babies look creepy. They could be aliens. posted by ZachsMind at 8:37 PM on February 5, 2004
does having a baby four months ago count? posted by josephtate at 9:38 PM on February 5, 2004
I'm thinking of stealing a baby, does that count? Wait, I don't have a blog. Shit. Shit. Shit. posted by Slagman at 11:04 PM on February 5, 2004
I do have a blog and we borrow babies a lot... posted by Samizdata at 12:12 AM on February 6, 2004
Or were we talking having babies in the culinary sense? posted by Samizdata at 12:12 AM on February 6, 2004
I'll be moblogging live pics from the delivery room in about a month, if the ballooning Mrs. Kyoto can hold on that long. posted by planetkyoto at 12:52 AM on February 6, 2004
This is discussion-worthy in some way? I read some 40 blogs by women on a daily basis and of that number, at least half have had a child in the time I've been reading them and another half-dozen are currently pregnant. I myself have given birth to a child and also adopted a child in the time I've been writing online. There are 46 blogger/journalers who've had babies while they were writing and joined a webring specifically about it, and there are another ~200 members in the Blogging Mommies webring. Parenthood is a pretty routine part of the lives of most adults. That ain't news. posted by Dreama at 1:50 AM on February 6, 2004

However, it would be news if people stopped having babies for a change. posted by terrapin at 4:12 AM on February 6, 2004

Bloggers get laid? posted by bondcliff at 6:43 AM on February 6, 2004
Dreama - Isn't blogging one of the few forms of writing - short pithy comments requiring 1-60 minutes - that syncs up well with the rythyms of new babies which need constant care?
I suppose they could write Haiku, or poetry. But why not put that online as well ?
I'd think that Blogdom would be swamped by blogging babyminding new parents. posted by troutfishing at 7:01 AM on February 6, 2004
I know a blogger who's having a baby soon. I'll be sure to put it on the front page when it happens. posted by languagehat at 8:06 AM on February 6, 2004
A whole bunch of stand up comedians just had their first babies... oh, I can't wait for all the hilarious material they come up with!
Sure, today, the 'diaper change' posts are a little icky, but as soon as they learn to type, these rugrats will become The Next Generation of Bloggers. posted by wendell at 8:51 AM on February 6, 2004
oooh, impressive demon eye going on there. posted by dabitch at 10:15 AM on February 6, 2004
Statistically insignificant. At any given time, thousands of babies are being born all over the world. A handful of bloggers (fewer than ten in the FPP) having babies amongst the millions of blogs that supposedly exist... how did this become a "boom"? posted by madman at 11:20 AM on February 6, 2004
For all the literalists out there, I was using the term "baby boom" as a quip. No need to start debating the statistical insignificance. A few heavily-read bloggers are having babies. I thought it was interesting. I posted. Life goes on. posted by arielmeadow at 11:37 AM on February 6, 2004
