Conclusion: random captioning about as funny as the originating material. posted by GhostintheMachine at 10:39 AM on April 26, 2004
Some comics a bit NSFW.
Oop, sorry. I played with it for a quite a while and didn't see any NSFW pictures, but I guess I was just (un)lucky. posted by Capn at 10:44 AM on April 26, 2004
This is my first first post in da blue, by the way, comments?

I like this. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I would crack my sister up by reassigning the punchlines to the jokes inside Laffy Taffy. posted by eastlakestandard at 11:05 AM on April 26, 2004
It's probably gauche to comment so much in one's own thread, but I had to share this posted by Capn at 11:17 AM on April 26, 2004
There was an old far side book, I think it was Prehistory of the Far Side or something, that had several instances of captions actually being switched during publication in newspapers. I think Dennis the Menace ended up saying something about rats for dinner. posted by tirade at 4:23 PM on April 26, 2004
I'm so glad someone besides me remembers that, tirade! From memory:
Image1: Dennis and Joey carrying sandwiches past annoyed-looking mother.
Text2: Dennis: "Oh brother--hamsters again."
Image2: Family of snakes sitting around table with heaping bowl of hamsters.
Text1: Child-snake: "It's a good thing I learned how to make peanut butter sandwiches or we would have starved by now."
Image3: Caveman sitting with cavewoman looking into crystal ball.
Text4: "If I get as big as Dad, won't my skin be too tight?"
Image 4: Menace family sitting around dinner table.
Text3: Dennis: "I see your little petrified skull, labeled and sitting on a shelf somewhere."
And from the site (though again from memory):
Image: Two workmen carrying a wardrobe containing an anxious-looking man clutching his crotch.
