Very wonderful, plep. But why do they call it "basement" beauties? Because these hussies were so brazen that they should have been filmed "underground"?

Anyway, I've also been having a very good time visiting some of the past exhibitions, too. Thanks!

These are wonderful. Sennett was actually a pretty decent photographer. I think they're called Basement Beauties because they were exhibited in the underground gallery at the Univ of Cal Riverside/California Museum of Photography. That's my guess, anyway. Thanks, plep.

taz, I had the same question. I thought it was maybe that the photos came out of Donovan Roberts' basement. If it's because of the underground gallery, maybe they could have indicated that connection, say, anywhere on the site.

Other than that, great stuff - "an innocent display of playful young women," right.
