I had an ESL student years ago from Afghanistan, who used to insist, "You know--one of us helped NASA put a man on the moon!"
It was a couple of years later that I realized he was talking about Al-Biruni, whose contributions to science and math (including spherical trigonometry), did indeed contribute to putting a man on the moon.
