Henri Cartier-Bresson is gone. As I was dithering about whether to introduce a double post , google served up this neat little link; and they even have stiff competition. Creepy or handy?

Awkward.

What is it with the double posts today?

Yeah, in retrospect, the construction of this post could have been done so much better...

..so that people wouldn't think it's a double post.

This post adds nothing to a discussion honoring a recently departed and highly regarded artist but a list of links to highschool bozo bullshit.

[this post sucks]

sorry, but you fucking dumbo (referencing your own July 15 metatalk thread)

and seriously, this post of yours sucks.

Deathlist.net apparently missed Thatcher's death.

Woah, don't hold back. FWIW, this looks like an accident to me: just two posts to the front page at roughly the same time.

The words "double post" in the post itself link to an FPP that's over two years old and just happens to be about the artist. I don't think most people would consider this to be a double post of that.

At least both this post and the other one today tried to add value, rather than just link to CNN or something.

Don't hold back on us Peter, we want to know what you really think.

Speaking of, didn't Matt delete a crappy post of yours just last week, Peter H?

Ha, yes he did dhoyt! Happy you're paying attention. But mine didn't link a recently passed artist to a message board based on shitting on people's lives.

Even if this were the first FPP of the day about Bresson dying, this post would suck.

Actually - should mention the deathlist stuff isn't horrible. It seems like a nice enough community of people and playfully written. But FPP connecting it, obituary-style, to a recent death is incredibly dumb and vulgar. Ugly, sayin. So the links aren't bad but man do you get an D- for style.

Please excuse my comment about deathlist being a message board based on shitting, etc. Once I found a thread of someone I was happy to be dead it was pretty amusing.

Though I don't recall the post, I bet it also didn't have people acting like smug assholes, name calling, and condemnations. Where'd you learn your manners?

Peter, I hope you are having a nice day.

Yes, the message board has people making somewhat distasteful puns about dead celebrities, but in light of today's earlier post about Ms. Thatcher, I thought the site could at least serve as a reference. Disrespect towards Henri Cartier-Bresson is quite the last thing I would've intended.

Well you have a good point, dobbs. I acted poorly on that thread. It was a loony day. And you have a perfect right to point out whatever you're pointing out about me.

I will admit I got a little peeved at the beginning of this thread and I over-reacted. Death is a sensitive thing, though - and Metafilter usually likes to have a proper thread to those kinds of things. I personally wouldn't try to FPP any announcement of anyone dying, since the person who does usually does it in a careful way that allows the conversation to go wherever it might. Sorry for metatalking this out here.

(on preview) Strangefoe - I appreciate your point. It was timing, man. The body was barely cold. It provoked me.

deathlist.net et.al. are interesting places to visit although I doubt I'll be back to that genre soon.

Thanks for posting this [though an awkward FPP it was]
