Magnificent. When I first got into jazz, I was a little impatient with the general reverence for Blue Note -- sort of like how some MeFites feel about the similar reverence for Google. But you know what? Blue Note, like Google, really is that good. Or was, back in the day. They still put out some good stuff, but they're not at the front of the pack any more... and some of the recent covers are downright unpleasant. posted by languagehat at 3:42 PM on September 19, 2004
On a related note, I've been totally into this Blue Note Trip - Saturday Night/Sunday Morning compilation. Kind of like the Verve Remixed only way toned down and more true to the jazz. Afro Man, The Beat Goes On, Book of Slim... it's good all around. Mmmm... posted by geoff. at 3:42 PM on September 19, 2004
If you like these tiny jpgs of the covers, I've gotten twobooks full of blue note covers from amazon as gifts in the past couple years. They're even better on nice paper, in full color. posted by mathowie at 3:50 PM on September 19, 2004
Jazz - the last refuge of the untalented. Jazz musicians enjoy themselves more than anyone listening to them does. posted by ed\26h at 2:13 AM on September 20, 2004
