Today is National Coming Out Day which aims to raise awareness of the kinda screwed up laws we have about having The Gay™ in America. Did you know that in 36 out of our 50 states, if you tell your boss you're gay and you get fired over it, it's totally legal? One person has proposed that this day also be Gay for Pay Day, to protest the payment of income taxes to a government that doesn't protect their right to be and is actively trying to forbid their own marriages.

Whoa now, I think that should be "assholes suck" not religion, mind ya. Let's keep this on topic with the assholes that hate gays and not the larger than life topic of religion, which includes very nice people and asshole people together in one pie, etc.

In celebrating a quarter century of being out (I made the jump at 13 years old, which I don't recommend to everyone) I would simply like to say -- come on out.

It's really cold and damp in the closet. And you can't date dustbunnies. (OK you can, but I know nothing about it.)

Wait, Gay for Pay Day asked people to stay home on October 11th to protest for gay rights. Isn't today a holiday? Americans already can't go to the bank or mail a letter. I know everyone doesn't get Columbus Day off, but that certainly dulls the impact.

I'm a non-conformist... my personal Coming Out Day was on August 16. Purely by coincidence, that's also Madonna's birthday.

If you had the original "You Don't Know Jack" CD-rom game and played it on October 11, the announcer's (or host's--I forget) voice came on and said something to the effect of, "You know, today is National Coming Out Day, so if you have something to share with the rest of us, please save it for after the show, alright?"
