Maybe the draft'll get reinstated and your dream's a reality, Card Cheat?

That's a lot more hi-tech than PacManhattan.

Although I don't know if that makes it "better".

You could listen to this while doing it, too.

neckro23 - the user comment says this is an Richard D James pseudo; any truth to that you know?

It is indeed an old and crusty Aphex ephort. One for the collectors, rather than yer actual musical appreciation though.

I guess this kind of overlay of digital information (pacman grid etc.) onto the real world (as seen through your video monitor) is a lot easier than presenting the real world to you on your computer monitor — at least I am assuming this is why I still haven't seen the "wander the streets of Paris/New York/Rome/etc. as if it were a 3D shooter" killer app yet (but only crudely linked QTVR panoramas).

Vernor Vinge has written a few short stories recently involving advanced personal overlay technology and wide area wireless networking. His next novel is supposed to revolve around it. He's one of the best sci-fi writers around at extrapolating known technologies.

One of the stories is online here.

Oh, and I dare them to make a human Sonic the Hedgehog.

My 2003 halloween costume was blue tracksuit, blue mohawk, minicasette recorder in my pocket onto which I'd recorded Sonic music from my Genesis. I'd push play and run everywhere; it was fucking awesome.
