middle finger
this is the tallest finger. Pray for all the important people who have power in the world, like world leaders and their governments, members of parliament and local councillors, the Royal Family, other world leaders and their governments.

Ummmm...?

They didn't mention the Lord's Prayer. Heathens.

I'm sure you're getting ready to post a "Learn to Meditate" link as well - er, wait - earnest Christians really are just that funny to laugh at, aren't they?

"Build up a collection of favourite prayers and sayings -anything that speaks to you. You can find them in greeting cards, cuttings in the press or bookmarks and prayer cards. You could make a scrapbook for them."

the spanish inquisition, young boys and now plaigarism...someone stop the madness?!

MetaFilter: Learn to make fun of Christians. Have seen folks meditating with their hands like that.

They are when step #1 says "How to start? Use your hand."

I think instructions on how to pray are a great thing, if you want to learn how to pray. But this is more like Prayer for Dummies.

now plaigarism
Please explain.

Prayer for Dummies.
The advice we provide here was originally written for a children’s book. Guess why it became a post for an adult to laugh at.

mudpuppie:

The article linked was clearly written for children: The advice we provide here was originally written for a children’s book. However, whether you are a child, young person, or an adult, prayer is easier than you might imagine!

Granted, your first comment was funny (I indeed like the idea of more people praying to our world leaders using their middle fingers), but this post is crap.

What's funnier than Christians? Christians teaching children how to be Christians! Come on.

Er, praying for our world leaders, that is. Unless you're Sean Hannity.

I quite liked the post. Also, I meant no insult to Christianity or Christians. I would have found this just as funny if it was a page on Nike's site about how to tie your shoes. Personal taste, I guess.

If you think the post is crap -- fine, but I don't think the blame falls on me.

My finger positioning was slightly off! So that's why none of them were answered.

The page may well be amusing and trite, but I remember finding it very helpful in the first few weeks after I converted to Christianity a couple of years ago. A new convert has a vague idea that they're supposed to talk to God to ask for things and to give thanks for things. But knowing roughly what to do is very different to actually doing it. Having something simple like a mnemonic that links the different fingers of your hand to different topics of prayer can be a useful memory aid when you're on your knees and suddenly wonder "what do I say next?"

And building a scrapbook of favourite prayers is an aid to contemplation. Sometimes when you don't have the words to hand at that time, it helps to read through a prewritten prayer slowly, mulling over each phrase.
