Did you think that it couldn’t get worse than 'The Terry Schiavo blog' ? Think again. Amanda Egge is “doing the Schiavo”. (Stronger than usual Bad Taste Warning required)

I don't see any upside to making fun of a vegetable.
Can we mock Tom Delay in funny photos instead? Do the Delay? posted by mathowie at 9:24 PM on April 6, 2005
There's something about the page format and design that pushes it from harmless Internet meme to crass attempt at self-promotion. posted by nixerman at 9:24 PM on April 6, 2005
Funny, though it struck me as a little derivative of the sidetalkin' thing. posted by bobo123 at 9:52 PM on April 6, 2005
Dammit, puke & cry, you beat me to the Lynndie reference...good job.
And I can understand that this might be considered "funny" by some people...in some circumstances...but I also realize that "normal" people will be outraged by "doing the Schiavo." Fine line between...humor & pain? Tragedy and comedy? And FWIW, yeah, I did laugh a little. posted by davidmsc at 9:56 PM on April 6, 2005
Slang. To be extremly hungry; starving to death; “Lets eat, I'm totally schiavo”
Man, you'd have to be pretty hard to bust that out in normal company. A little funny, in the pain+time kinda way, but also a little self-promotional, since she fancies herself a comedienne. The bio and resume links make it less funny to me. posted by dammitjim at 10:06 PM on April 6, 2005
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to condone anything about it. It’s just so… extreme… And still, you know that there is so much out there that is even worse… So, is it the tiny spark of creativity that triggers the response? A little bit of originality that panders to the lowest common denominator? A stupid twist in meme-building?... Because it’s in really poor taste, does that mean that it will catch up with your average moron? Help me out here posted by growabrain at 10:07 PM on April 6, 2005
I don't mind offensive humor. I just ask that it is funny. This is not. This is just weak. posted by ColdChef at 10:11 PM on April 6, 2005
It's just whistling in the dark. Pretty disrespectful, though (not that Terry cares). posted by puddinghead at 10:17 PM on April 6, 2005
I agree that this wasn't all that funny. However, she does make a hot vegetable. posted by unsupervised at 10:28 PM on April 6, 2005
What we need is a picture of Lynndie doing the Schiavo. posted by punishinglemur at 10:29 PM on April 6, 2005
I can't believe she has the gall to ask for donations after that thing. She should have stayed on junk. posted by clockzero at 10:54 PM on April 6, 2005
I thought this was pretty funny, but then again, I've been making jokes for weeks in which the basis of the joke is equating Terri Schiavo with a zucchini. posted by grapefruitmoon at 11:19 PM on April 6, 2005
There was no value to this post, and the only reason this chick is getting recognition is because she is decent looking to internet dorks. Sorry, grow a brain. posted by Dean Keaton at 12:05 AM on April 7, 2005

and, being a member of the tribe, I'm glad to see that she likes Jew cock. posted by pruner at 3:15 AM on April 7, 2005
this thread is worth it for Dean Keaton's comment alone. posted by handee at 3:15 AM on April 7, 2005
I can't believe the positive responses here. This sucks. Not because it's offensive, but because it is completely lacking in any sort of wit. This woman is an adult, and her material isn't any better than the 6th grade classmate who winced, stuck his tongue out and said "look at me! I'm a retard!" And she probably makes a good living at it because she's a woman and she's decent looking, which trumps "dim, talentless hack." And make no mistake-- she's a dim, talentless hack. posted by Mayor Curley at 4:15 AM on April 7, 2005
dammitjim,
That's completely the type of joke that would kill where I work. But I'm lucky in that sense. Most people would just get dirty looks.
I wonder if anyone's requested a Schiavo expression from Emotion Eric. posted by Mikey-San at 5:09 AM on April 7, 2005
Also, it might be good to note that the last page is NSFW. posted by Mikey-San at 5:11 AM on April 7, 2005
This isn't really clever in the slightest, which would be the only redeeming quality in such circumstances. I was imagining some lyrical hijacking of a lame 80's jam, or a disco hit... but alas. Judging by the rest of the garbage on her page, par for the course. posted by prostyle at 6:06 AM on April 7, 2005
I'll also give this a thumbs down. Not creative, not original, not tasteful, not funny, not even interesting.. just cruel, hurtful, and childish.
and, she's butt ugly on top of all that... looks like Joan Rivers on speed! posted by HuronBob at 6:22 AM on April 7, 2005
I'm a huge fan of wilfully taste-free humour, but this lacks the necessary context to make it funny. The "Do the Lynddie" thing could be funny because it was necessary to do it in some sort of context. Just striking the pose for the sake of it wouldn't have been funny.
I can go on at tedious length in defence of black humour and sick jokes. Huge length. But fear not, I won't. Not here, anyway. This isn't worth defending. posted by Decani at 6:51 AM on April 7, 2005
In the dictionary, next to "insufferable hipster ass," it says "see Amanda Egge." posted by jonmc at 6:53 AM on April 7, 2005
Amanda Egge is perfect if you find Artie Lang's comedy "too brainy". posted by dhoyt at 6:55 AM on April 7, 2005

Artie Lang? wasn't he the "verrry interrresting!" guy from Laugh-In? Now that cat was funny. posted by jonmc at 7:01 AM on April 7, 2005
Y'see, while hideously offensive, the Terri Schiavo blog was moderately funny due to the fresh juxtaposition of form and content - the rigorous archiving, headlining and so forth combined with meaningless grunts.
There's nothing fresh, surprising, witty or worthwhile about this. Other than the lame attempts to corral existing celeb photos that don't really match the theme, this is simply a catalog of people who want the world to know that they are thoughtless idiots.l posted by soyjoy at 7:18 AM on April 7, 2005
The only thing missing is "Coma Girl" by Joe Strummer for the soundtrack. posted by mike3k at 7:21 AM on April 7, 2005

What's with all the comments about how Amanda Egge looks? That seems like an odd point of contention when the primary source of outrage is so obvious.
I thought this was funny because I find just about everything in incredibly bad taste to be funny. And when something is so offensive that I lose my sense of humor and become righteously indignant, that itself is funny too.
I think David Cross perfected this kind of comedy in a gag about the time he was leaving a religious revivalist gathering and the Virgin Mary raped him. posted by rcade at 7:35 AM on April 7, 2005

Just by nature of it trying to offend? I wholeheartedly agree with you that an offensive angle can work very well (I'm probably guilty of visiting that well too often), but this just seems lazy to me. posted by Mayor Curley at 9:07 AM on April 7, 2005
I wrote Amanda a very nice email on an internet dating site last year, and she never wrote me back.

Clearly, good Karma for me.
No kidding. To judge from her front page, she'd tell your mom that she used to be a junkie during their introduction. And you can get hepatitis through sexual contact. posted by Mayor Curley at 10:11 AM on April 7, 2005
I know, I know. It's really serious.
I don't so much mind the lack of taste as the lack of humour.
