Definately a fit for WhiskeyTangoFoxtrotFilter.

Whatever it is, it's stupid. It reminds me a bit of that Comedy Central show "stella" which I hate.

I found some of them pretty darn funny. After four episodes, though, I wasn't really aching to watch the whole series. Oh well. Thanks for the find though!

I enjoy it, and I like Stella, too. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Actualy, it's like collage television, but not funny.

Anyone from Newburyport care to explain?

Me: Hey, Thom W. Neff, writer of Joppa, what are you writing?

TWN: I'm not. I'm just crossing out all the lines of dialog that make sense.

Me: Why's that?

TWN: Because random is always automatically funny.

Me: No, it's not.

TWN: Yes it is! God, you just don't know anything about comedy. If you smoked pot and lived in a lifeless suburban neighborhood, you'd totally think this was funny.

reads from page

TWN: Isn't the lupus like a giant rabbit... ha! brilliant!

Having recently finished working on a comedy pilot, that turned out to be incredibly unfunny - this depressed me.

in review...
-nice to know everyone's watching!

-none of us have actually seen STELLA, but we hear it's good.

-none of us actually smoke pot, but we hear it's good.

-Newburyport is hardly a "lifeless suburban neighborhood." It's actually a "city." Which is much larger than a "neighborhood." It's like a "collection of neighborhoods." You ever hear of "New York?" Not the "state." There's also a "city" in New York called "New York." (I know, it's confusing...) New York "City" is also a collection of neighborhoods.

-whoever wrote the scene with Thom talking about random humor is brilliant. it sounds just like him. he even uses the word "totally" just like you wrote. you must be a script-writer! (a couple tips: 1. you would probably just call him "thom." hardly anyone refers to him by his first and last name and middle initial. 2. "writer of joppa" is a bit much. if you needed to add a title, even "writer" would suffice. or, nothing at all. 3. was it meant to be sarcastic? Because, honestly, "Isn't the lupus like a giant rabbit?" is pretty funny.)

-we don't expect everyone to get it--thus is the nature of the show. it's like that gap between people who enjoy the "American" Office over the "British" Office. You folks must get pretty sick of having to read subtitles.

-"having recently finished working on a comedy pilot..." There's nothing quite like throwing personal credentials into your criticism, and then adding a little self-praise never hurts. When's your show on?

-never seen "collage television." but, i made some collages in college. it requires many glue sticks and a couple sheets of construction paper.

-thanks a bunch for all the feedback, we'll be getting your comments on the site shortly.

-if some of you are from california, then we totally understand.

-scrim, drop us a line sometime. we'd love to know where you found us. THANKS for the link!

I liked it a lot. Not laugh out loud funny, but funnier than the comics page. And more addictive.

I always get weirded out when people register for metafilter to respond to threads, but as long as joppa is reading: you guys could save a lot of bandwidth by not putting the full opening/clothing credits sequence in every time. I was skipping it anyway. Also, I was disappointed that you changed "Isn't that where the coat factory is?" to "Isn't that where the coat factory came from?" between episodes.

Oh, and the site design is pretty awesome.

It's funny, because I was all set to check it out until I read the response from Joppa themselves.

Wow, that was unfunny.

What's that thing they say about responding to reviews? Oh yeah -- don't.

sorry...didn't realize these were technically "reviews," thought it was more a discussion forum...just wanted to add to the discussion by pointing out some observations..."misinformations", if you will...wasn't really trying to be "funny"... just wouldn't want to have people believing things that weren't true, said in our name....but, we were wrong....we'll stay out of it, and in the future, we'll try to be more "discussion board savvy."
(was this all right?)
AN IDEA: Let's stop "reviewing" Joppa, and start "reviewing" each other's posts! The Rev started us off, let's roll...

Wow Joppa. I guess sticking that can of RAID up your ass didn't help?
posted by cytherea at 12:22 AM on September 13, 2005

oh holy crap

is it just me or do other people picture a skinny white 20-something constantly doing the finger-quotes thing becasue it's ironic and therefore funny?

Seriously joppa dudes, responding to people who post one line about not liking your internet thing with the longest post in the thread and barely-concealed pissyness dosen't really pay off, like the Rev. Syung Myung Me said.
posted by Snyder at 1:00 AM on September 13, 2005

of course, I mean ironic in the stuoid way, not the actual, literary way.
posted by Snyder at 1:01 AM on September 13, 2005

Nice! Snyder, well played. Cytherea, you can do better than that. "Can of RAID"? There's got to be something better.

Snyder, "dudes" really shows your age. Be more careful next time...and, I think the word you want is "stupid." A little hasty to get that "Zinger" out before you used spell-check?

Remember folks, if we're going to do this right, you don't always have to review Joppa posts. There's plenty on here to have a go at.

Joppa, good for you for posting.

Bad for you for using the theme music from "The Joker's Wild" in your closing title sequence. Copyright infringement so totally sux0rz.

Sorry for the "french."

So? There's no law against it.

Andreaazure wins the Prize!
You must be the first person who's pointed out the very corny and very 70's Joker's Wild theme song. We'd like to give you a prize! If you're going to steal a song, you've got to steal the best!!

And, Snyder, yes, there are laws against it in Massachusetts.

dear Joppa,

I found your initial response to this post/thread to be excellent. I'm sorry the others seemed to disagree.

Furthermore, I sincerely hope you take my little scene/review of your work as nothing less than inspiration to continue working how you see fit. What I think doesn't matter.

Lastly, I'm afraid that everyone who told you to stop responding to individual criticism has a point. You're beginning to sound like Vincent Gallo.
