It's funny because they know enough of a language to be able to string together fairly coherent sentenses, but that don't use the familiar turns of phrase we all come to think of as part of the language.

This reminds me of the insults we used to cook up in my French Immersion classes where we weren't allowed to use English but where they never taught us anything not considered 'proper'. (tĂȘte de merde)

Second, I know rishi chadda will not call me and apologize. Just you will shout like a road chaap mad dog.i knows what my status is. But do you know what your status is?
You call every person like somendra, Rajneesh request for joining company and after
Barks like a dog.

This holds nothing to Jimmy James' "Jimmy James: Macho Business Donkey Wrestler."

Sentient has the money and muscle power to FUCK you in your back side so hard that your generations to come will be born defunct just the way you are mentally sick & defunct.

That's some personnel management style!

bclark, that's the result of a cut-throat environment, clogged and corrupt court system, corrupt and apathetic bureaucracy.

Man, it's been a long time since I had an opportunity to laugh at foreigners not speaking good queen's English. Thanks metafilter! When is the next pogrom meetup?

[I pre-emptively apologize for this]

It's not the english that is amusing, it's the over-the-top balls-outness of it all. It's Bollywood!

My Question - Did you go to school?

That tickled my funnybone ever so slightly.

Best comment on thread, however, goes to:

What is your status?

Which is a kewl way of saying "who the hell do you think you are?" (I think that's what he meant).

I'm going to borrow that one. Imagine getting into a protracted, heated Metafilter argument and then suddenly hitting 'em with "What is your status?"

And then they'll all be like. "Wah fah? This guy is crazy, better stop arguing with him".

But what most other people said. Not that funny. Laffing at someone's bad Engrish is like laffing at a man dressed as a woman. It was funny the first time I saw it. Like, when I was 8 years old. Immediately ceased to be funny after that.

MattHaughey, could you please just go and buy boingboing already? There is some serious duplication of effort going on here. Not only is the time of posters on both sites being wasted by linking to the same stuff, but think of the duplication on the part of all of the readers!

Maybe you and Mr. Doctorow or Ms. Jardin or who ever is in charge over there could agree to setting up a metaboingboing.com domain for all those who feel compelled to so duplicate.

Good links are good, but face it - we're all just procrastinating here. We might as well minimize the loss of our productive time if at all possible. (No offense srboisvert, I'm just sayin'.)

'Office Space India' just isn't as funny in translation.

I thought it was funny, and I don't feel bad about it.

If I tried to write a letter in Hindi, I'm sure it would turn out much worse, and people would laugh even harder.

Besides, fuck PC, right?

As an English teacher in China, I am in an environment saturated by engrish. I still find it funny when it takes the form of double entendres, or when it results in truly unique uses of the language.

Aside from mocking someone's poor command of English while butchering it yourself, I think the funniest part about this flamewar is the bold and unique insults they craft, and the fury by which they carry them out. In creativity, it's really an order of magnitude above flames native English speakers would write.

Oh, the irony! :-)

Incidentally, all the insults there are the standard for Indian English, just as the beautifully explicit Hokkien expression 'wa lau' ('oh my penis!') is standard for Singaporean English.

I suppose I'm exposing my roots when I say that I find it extremely funny when someone tries to say 'yo dawg' in an Indian, preferably South Indian, accent. ;-)
